Basbusa, a well-known oriental sweetness, is a delicate crumbly cake soaked in syrup. In a simple way - Arabic manna, very tasty and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Beat eggs with sugar and vanilla extract.
  2. Add drinking yogurt without additives (can be replaced with kefir) and melted butter, mix.
  3. Add semolina, salt and baking powder, mix thoroughly until smooth.
  4. Line the rectangular shape (25x35 cm) with parchment and pour the semolina mixture into it. Bake at 180 degrees for 30 minutes.
  5. In 5 min. before cooking is complete, boil the syrup (you need it hot): put honey in a saucepan, add zest from lemon and oranges, freshly squeezed juice. Heat until honey dissolves. Do not boil!
  6. Remove the finished bassbus from the oven - it should be well browned. Without removing the cake from the mold, pour hot syrup over it and sprinkle with coconut immediately. Leave the cake in the pan for 15 minutes to soak, then remove and cool completely.
  7. Cut into squares and serve! Basbusu is traditionally served with coffee.
