Boil the potatoes in salted water until soft, for 15-20 minutes. Drain the water, let the potatoes cool slightly.
Meanwhile, melt the butter in a saucepan, add the onion and fry, stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes.
Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Cut the chilled potatoes into thin slices and place one layer in an ovenproof dish. Put 1/3 of the salmon on top of the potatoes, and 1/3 of the onion on top. Repeat layers, ending with potatoes. Sprinkle with chopped dill on top.
Beat eggs in a small bowl, add milk, cream, season with salt and pepper, beat well again. Pour the casserole with this mixture and place in the oven for 30-35 minutes.
Serve the casserole, cut into portions.
