Lamb stew with potatoes and barley

Lamb on the bone, stewed with onions, pearl barley, potatoes and carrots, turns out to be very tender and juicy due to long cooking. All products go well with each other; different textures of vegetables, cereals and meat are combined with appetizing in every spoon of the finished dish.

  1. We prepare the necessary products.
  2. It is recommended to take a neck with a bone, divided by the vertebrae.
  3. Potatoes should be taken not too starchy.
  4. To make stews, you need 500 ml of hot water.
  5. We wash the pearl barley several times until the water remains clear. Soak the barley for 1 hour.
  6. Peel the onion, rinse and cut into quarters.
  7. Rinse the lamb and put it in a saucepan with a thick bottom.
  8. We wash the pearl barley again, drain the water completely.
  9. Add onion and pearl barley to the meat.
  10. Pour 500 ml of hot water into a saucepan (the water should cover the meat), salt and pepper.
  11. Peel the potatoes and carrots, wash and cut into cubes.
  12. Add the potatoes with carrots to the pan, do not stir.
  13. The potatoes should not be completely covered with water; they should be steamed a little. Bring to a boil, reduce the fire to a minimum. Cover the pan with a lid and simmer the lamb with vegetables for 2-4 hours, until tender. The stew shouldn't boil too much. Finished meat should come off the bone well.
  14. Serve lamb stew with potatoes and barley hot as an independent dish.
