  1. Finely chop the onion. Heat oil in a saucepan and simmer onion for 4 minutes over low heat. Squeeze out the garlic with a press. Add tomato paste and tomatoes. Add spices, herbs and bay leaves. Bring to a boil and boil for 30 minutes. At the end of cooking, remove the bay leaf.
