Of all the Italian dishes American kids have, this is their favorite. But, say, in Tuscany, you will never meet it at all - and all because it came from the north of Italy, where most of the Italian immigrants to the United States come from. We seem to be not children already, but we also really like it.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Pour milk over the bread crumbs and leave to swell for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Chop the onion into small cubes, chop the garlic. Heat oil in a skillet and fry the onion in it over medium heat until soft, 5 minutes; add the garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, for another 1 minute. Remove from heat and cool.
  3. In a large bowl, combine both minced meat, onion, bread crumbs with milk, chopped herbs, salt and pepper. Hand knead for 10 minutes. Then, with clean hands soaked in cold water, form small meatballs (about the size of a ping-pong ball) and place on a non-stick or parchment-lined baking sheet, lightly dusting each meatball in flour. Bake in an oven preheated to 200 ° C for 20 minutes, until golden brown.
  4. For the sauce, heat the olive oil in a large saucepan, add chopped garlic and finely diced bell peppers, fry over medium heat, 2-3 minutes. Add tomatoes, stir, reduce heat to low, salt and cook, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes. Add the cooked meatballs, cover the saucepan with a lid, cook for another 20 minutes, adding a little water if the sauce becomes too thick. Serve with spaghetti cooked according to package directions and sprinkle with chopped parsley.
