Snow Peas: The Princess of the Peas

Behind a hard shell, there is usually a soft core: in the case of sugar snap peas, tender, still unripe peas are well protected inside. These can be picked out diligently because they are extremely rich in minerals and low-fat – perfect for a healthy kitchen!

The princess of the peas

Sugar snap peas are considered a particularly tender pea variety. The unripe peas are hidden in the protective pod. They are so fine that they can even be eaten raw and are easily digestible. The sweet taste of the pea, and the pod as well, make it a popular summer snack or a delicious ingredient for light meals – and it also provides lots of healthy ingredients.

Sugar snap peas are so healthy

Sugar snap peas are low in fat and score with important minerals such as iron, phosphate, and potassium. The delicate green of the peas also contains provitamin A, which has a positive effect on the skin and eyesight. Good to know: Unlike dried peas, fresh snow peas do not cause flatulence.

Sugar snap peas owe their sweet taste to their relatively high proportion of sugar and carbohydrates. People who eat low-carb should consider this before eating.
