Soak 12 bamboo sticks in cold water for about 30 minutes.
Prepare yakitori sauce. In a small saucepan, combine sake, soy sauce, mirin and sugar. Bring the mass to a boil, reduce heat, boil the sauce for 10 minutes. In the meantime, dilute the starch in 1 teaspoon of water, add this mixture to the saucepan with the sauce, mix well. Pour the sauce into a small bowl.
Cut chicken meat into small pieces.
Cut the onion diagonally into 3 cm pieces.
Turn on the grill to preheat.
String chicken meat and onions on soaked skewers, put on a preheated grill, fry for about 5-10 minutes, periodically greasing with sauce and turning over.
Serve the skewers with the remaining yakitori sauce.
