Mashed potatoes, sauerkraut and fried onions - all this can already be combined and eaten, or can be laid out in a mold in layers and baked in the oven. Why waste time on this ?! One has only to look at the golden brown crust, and all questions will disappear by themselves. Such a potato casserole with sauerkraut and fried onions is good both in fasting and for vegetarians, and as a side dish - a universal dish.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. We prepare all the necessary products.
  2. You can use any spices to your taste. I took dried thyme and tarragon.
  3. Peel the potatoes and onions.
  4. You can use the remaining mashed potatoes after the meal.
  5. If there is no ready-made mashed potatoes, then it will not be difficult to prepare it.
  6. Cut the potato into several parts so that it cooks faster.
  7. You can even boil whole peeled potatoes, but it will take longer.
  8. Put the potatoes in a saucepan or saucepan.
  9. Fill the potatoes with water - they should be completely covered. Add salt.
  10. We put the container with potatoes on the fire. After boiling, cook the potatoes for 15-20 minutes, until tender.
  11. While the potatoes are boiling, cut the onion into feathers.
  12. Heat 15 ml of vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry the onion over a low-medium heat, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes.
  13. Drain the water from the finished potatoes. With the help of a crush, turn the potatoes into a homogeneous puree.
  14. We turn on the oven to heat up to 200 degrees. Grease the baking dish with 15 ml of vegetable oil.
  15. Put half of the mashed potatoes on the bottom.
  16. Spread the onion over the potatoes.
  17. We squeeze the sauerkraut from the excess brine with our hands and send it to the mold. We distribute.
  18. Sprinkle the cabbage with dried herbs (thyme and tarragon).
  19. Put the remaining mashed potatoes on top. We make grooves with a fork so that the surface of the casserole is beautiful.
  20. Sprinkle with the remaining vegetable oil.
  21. We send the form to the oven. Bake mashed potatoes with sauerkraut and fried onions for 20 minutes, until golden brown on the surface.
  22. Decorate the prepared mashed potato casserole with sauerkraut and fried onions with fresh herbs.
  23. You can wait until the casserole has completely cooled down, and cut it into neat portioned pieces, but it tastes best when warm.
  24. Serve the casserole, adding vegetable salad or pickles.
  25. And on non-fasting days, such a casserole is perfect as a side dish for meat or poultry.
  26. Bon Appetit!
