Polish herring - an original appetizer of salted herring fillet, apple and onion. Rather, this is not even an appetizer, but a salad, because the ingredients are complemented by a thick sauce of sour cream and mustard. Herring in sour cream can be served with fried potatoes or simply with rye bread. Unusual and very spicy!

  1. Prepare all the necessary ingredients for cooking herring in Polish, with apple and onion.
  2. I used a ready-made salted herring fillet. If you have a whole fish fillet it and properly examine the resulting fillet for small bones.
  3. An apple must be sour, with firm and juicy pulp.
  4. Cut the herring fillet into strips about 1 cm thick.
  5. Peel the red onion and cut into thin half rings.
  6. (If you are using a regular onion, it is better to pickle it. The simplest marinade is suitable: 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of sugar.)
  7. Peel the apple, remove the core and cut into thin slices.
  8. Transfer the chopped apple to a bowl, sprinkle with lemon juice, mix.
  9. Add half the sour cream to the apple, mix again.
  10. Add pieces of herring and onion there.
  11. Top the fish salad with the remaining sour cream and mustard. Add sugar, salt and ground black pepper.
  12. Gently toss the herring with the apple and onion.
  13. Put the herring appetizer in a salad bowl, garnish with sprigs of fresh dill.
  14. Polish herring is ready to serve.
