Strudel with apples and figs

The traditional Austrian dessert made of thin puff pastry and with a fragrant fig and apple filling is a perfect choice for a weekend, when you are in no hurry and can fully enjoy fresh homemade pastries.

  1. Soak raisins in warm water, and leave them for 30 minutes.
  2. Defrost the puff pastry following the instructions on the pack.
  3. Cut apples and figs into small pieces. Mix with raisins, lemon zest, sugar, and spices.
  4. Thinly roll out the dough. Brush the surface with melted butter.
  5. Put pieces of fruit on one side of the dough. Make a roll so that the dough can wrap the filling several times.
  6. Put it on a buttered baking dish. Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush the top of the roll with it.
  7. Preheat the oven to 180 °C and bake the dessert for 30 to 40 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle the strudel with powdered sugar, add a scoop of ice cream and invite the children to the table.
