The colors of carpets and rugs are dulled over time by dust, dirt, and sunlight and lose their color intensity. If the carpet looks faded and dingy, that’s unsightly. However, you don’t have to buy a new carpet right away, because you can freshen up the color of the carpet.

Home remedies such as vinegar, baking soda, and cornstarch can help you refresh the colors here. Another way to freshen up the carpet color is to treat your carpet with color washing powder. As you can see, there are home remedies and tricks to get your carpet spring fresh again.

The carpet is faded

Every carpet loses its luminosity over time. This is perfectly normal and as described below, you can freshen up the carpet color by maintaining the carpet with home remedies. When cleaning this way, be aware that vinegar and baking soda can also bleach your carpet. It is therefore important to try the home remedies first on a hidden spot or on the back of the carpet. Furthermore, you should always spread the homemade carpet cleaner evenly over the carpeting so that any change in color affects the entire carpet and it does not look stained. It should also be said that this cleaning has a great side effect: unpleasant odors in the vacuum cleaner disappear. Also, note tricks for keeping carpets fresh for longer.

Color refreshment with vinegar

Do you want to freshen up the carpet color? Or just get your carpet clean and fresh again? Then vinegar is the home remedy of your choice. First, clean the carpet thoroughly with the vacuum cleaner. Then brush the carpet against the grain with vinegar water (1 part vinegar essence to 10 parts water or 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water), not too wet. After the carpet has dried again, you just brush it again in the direction of the grain and the colors of your carpet will shine like new again.

Freshen up the carpet with washing powder

Commercial color washing powder is suitable for getting your carpet fresh again. You can refresh the carpet color with detergent. You can sprinkle it generously on your carpet and then leave it to work. A reaction time of 15-30 minutes is sufficient, and it doesn’t matter if someone steps on the carpet during this time. Then you simply suck the washing powder off the carpet with your vacuum cleaner. This way you can remove small stains on the carpet and the carpet will be fresh again. In addition, it smells nice the next time you vacuum as soon as you start vacuuming.

Refresh carpet with baking soda

The well-tried household remedy baking soda is also a good way to make carpets attractive again. A simple procedure is to mix the following cleaning powder. You can easily make it from home remedies that are available in every household. If something is missing, you can get it in any good supermarket. You need 250 g cornstarch, 250 g baking soda, and 50 ml white vinegar, as well as a scrubbing brush. The mixture is then sufficient for a carpet of about 5 square meters. Follow these steps to clean the carpet:

  1. Mix the cornstarch with baking soda and spread generously and evenly on the carpet. Apply a little more of the mixture to the stains.
  2. Make vinegar water from 1 part water and 3 parts vinegar or 1 part water and 10 parts vinegar essence and pour into a spray bottle. Then moisten the carpet evenly with it, but do not soak it.
  3. With the scrubbing brush, the applied cleaning powder is now rubbed into the carpet with circular movements.
  4. Now let the powder dry on the carpet overnight.
  5. The next morning, the carpet is vacuumed with the vacuum cleaner until it is clean and fresh again.
