There are a lot of ways to make coffee these days. Here you can find out what advantages a fully automatic machine offers.

When is a coffee machine needed?

Coffee has been one of the most popular drinks worldwide for years. There are now countless varieties, so there is something for everyone. But the preparation of coffee drinks is not always that easy. That is why the invention of fully automatic coffee machines goes hand in hand with many advantages for coffee lovers. With this invention and the progressive development of such machines, it became much easier to prepare a delicious coffee. The coffee drinker was relieved of more and more effort and work when preparing the hot drink. In the meantime, the selection is large – because everything is represented in the range, from manual preparation to semi-automatic variants to fully automatic machines. But which machine is the right one for which application?

Depending on where the machine is used, different functions are required. Fully automatic machines are particularly suitable for your own office space. They make it easier for coffee drinkers to prepare coffee in many ways and bring many advantages. Because these machines grind the coffee themselves, froth the milk and create the desired espresso drink. In addition, fully automatic machines have a wide range in their range, which can be easily selected at the push of a button. Whether espresso, latte macchiato or cappuccino – with the help of a fully automatic coffee machine, any coffee drink can be prepared in just a few seconds. A few other functions can also be selected, such as preparation with an additional shot of cocoa or the size of the cup. What are the other advantages of a fully automatic machine and what makes it stand out? In order to make it easier to decide for or against such a fully automatic machine, it will be examined more closely.

What advantages does a fully automatic machine offer?

A fully automatic machine covers a wide range of taste preferences. Popular varieties include cappuccino and latte macchiato. An espresso can also be prepared. This turns out to be a great advantage when many coffee lovers use the machine together. Because everyone can conveniently choose their favorite drink at the push of a button and is not tied to just one drink, as is the case with a French press or an espresso machine. If necessary, certain fully automatic machines also have the function of conjuring up extra foam on the drink or regulating the strength. No previous knowledge is required for this, as the desired coffee can be selected very simply at the push of a button or via a touchscreen. In order to be familiar with such a fully automatic machine, no intensive training in the technology is necessary. A coffee drink from the fully automatic machine can also be prepared quickly and saves a lot of time. With a fully automatic machine, a more intense aroma comes into its own than with conventional filter machines. This is due to the higher water pressure that the fully automatic machine exerts. It can also process the coffee beans as a whole thanks to an integrated grinder. This improves the taste immensely as the flavors don’t linger long after the coffee bean has been ground. The full quality of the coffee bean is preserved and creates a high-quality coffee beverage.

Fully automatic machines have a brewing group or brewing unit that forms the center of the machine. The coffee is portioned by the brewing group and pressed together in the filter so that the hot water can then flow through. If the brew group holds a large amount of ground coffee at once, the coffee can be brewed more heavily. If you don’t want that, you can make two cups of coffee out of it. Some fully automatic machines also have an automatic cleaning program that makes cleaning and maintaining the machine easier, which is otherwise a bit more complex. Ideally, there is a cleaning program with which the brewing group is cleaned with 80 degree hot water and a cleaning agent intended for this purpose. This removes coffee oils (produced when the bean is ground) and scale from the machine. Another advantage of the fully automatic coffee machine is that it takes up significantly less space than the portafilter machine. This means that the fully automatic machine can be used in many, even smaller rooms.

Coffee is the most popular hot beverage in Germany. In addition to the classic filter coffee, practical coffee pods are very popular with many coffee lovers.

The preparation with the pads covered in cellulose is child’s play with a special coffee pad machine. One pad is placed in the machine for each cup of coffee and the water is pressed through with pressure. This creates a wonderful crema that gives the coffee a round and velvety taste. The range of coffee pads with different types of coffee and flavors is diverse, so you can choose from the wide range according to your individual taste. There are also suitable pads for coffee-milk drinks, such as cappuccino, as well as for tea or cocoa.

The preparation of coffee with a coffee pad machine is quick and easy. The coffee always tastes the same because the portion size is consistent. Especially for small and single households, the preparation of coffee with pads for single portions is ideal and a coffee pad machine should not be missing in the kitchen! Compared to portion packs made of aluminum or plastic, coffee pods are environmentally friendly. They are made of cellulose and are therefore biodegradable.

5 advantages of the coffee pad machine

The advantages of coffee pads and preparation with a coffee pad machine are:

1. Fast and uncomplicated preparation of individual portions

Thanks to the practical pads, which can be inserted individually into the machine, it takes very little time to enjoy a delicious coffee. It only takes about 30 seconds to prepare a cup – child’s play!

2. Fine cream

During preparation, a fine crema is created, which ensures a velvety taste. For many coffee lovers, the crema is one of the most important things. It should be tender and yet have a slight firmness. It is the delicacy on the coffee, which also works great when prepared with the coffee pad machine.

3. Always the same strength and taste

Thanks to standardized filling quantities, the strength and taste of the coffee is the same with every preparation. This is of course great, as the coffee cannot become too strong or too weak. The filling quantity of 7 grams per pad is ideal for a harmonious, balanced aroma.

4. Eco-friendly

Pads are made of biodegradable cellulose and are therefore environmentally friendly and can be disposed of in the compost or general waste. Sustainability is becoming increasingly important to many consumers. So it fits perfectly to live this while enjoying coffee and to combine it with the easy handling of a coffee pad machine.

5. Price advantage

Compared to other portioned coffees, such as aluminum or plastic capsules, pads are cheaper. The lower packaging effort for the pads is also reflected in the price. This not only protects the environment, but also saves money.

How does a coffee pad machine work?

The coffee pad machine has been known for around 50 years, although it was initially only used in gastronomy. The machines score with uncomplicated use and easy handling. The coffee pad machine heats the water in the water tank to around 90 degrees Celsius and then pumps it through the pad. The preparation is quick and only takes about 30 seconds, so the full aroma of the coffee is preserved.

The way to the perfect Italian coffee is quick and uncomplicated thanks to coffee capsules. In terms of taste, the small capsules are in no way inferior to other forms of coffee preparation. On the contrary! You can find out the advantages of coffee capsules here.

How coffee capsules revolutionized the market

Coffee is considered an indispensable part of quality of life across all social classes. Thanks to the coffee capsule, enjoying a hot drink became a lifestyle experience at the beginning of the millennium.
Its history goes back several years. The engineer Eric Favre invented the capsule system as early as 1970, which first came onto the market in 1986. But the breakthrough of coffee capsules only came in 2001. Since then, this form of coffee preparation has enjoyed great popularity and has changed drinking habits, especially in western industrialized nations. No wonder: The coffee capsule systems have a lot of advantages, both in terms of preparation and taste.

With coffee capsule machines, preparation is child’s play

Thanks to the machines, which are designed for coffee capsules, there is no time-consuming preparation. The preparation is very simple:

Clamp the coffee capsule with portioned coffee powder into the capsule machine.
Place a cup or mug under the nozzle.
At the push of a button, water gets into the small can with great pressure. There the coffee brews itself first.
The coffee capsule ruptures due to the high pressure.
The finished coffee then flows through the opening directly into the cup. The result can be seen and tasted: The coffee tastes just like you know it from an Italian cafĂ© – and all that at the push of a button!

The advantage: Better crema and more aroma

The preparation in the capsule machine has a decisive advantage in terms of later enjoyment. It is due to the fact that the coffee brews itself under high pressure in the capsule. Thanks to this process, your coffee is then crowned with a particularly beautiful crema, and more aromatic substances are released than with conventional preparation.

In addition to the better crema and the aromatic taste, the capsules have another advantage: you can be sure that your coffee always tastes the same. Aroma and strength do not change because the capsules always contain the same amount of coffee.

Coffee capsules preserve aroma particularly well

Coffee capsules are made of plastic or aluminum and are also individually wrapped so that the aroma is fully preserved.

Since the freshly ground coffee is sealed in a capsule, it is optimally protected from oxygen, light and moisture. The aroma is preserved particularly well and only released again during preparation. In this way, you can always enjoy particularly fresh coffee with capsules.

Storage: What is the best way to store the coffee capsules?

When it comes to storage, coffee capsules come in handy. Because unlike coffee beans, ground coffee or coffee pods, they stay fresh even without a sealable jar.

Anyone who values order in the kitchen is well advised to use space-saving and elegant storage solutions such as caskets or capsule holders.

Simple and easy to care for: the coffee capsule machine

The capsule machine is always quickly ready for use. It only takes a few seconds for the device to heat up. Then you can brew your coffee at the push of a button.

But that’s not all: the maintenance of the capsule machine is also easy. You can easily clean removable inserts. And like any other coffee machine, you should descale your capsule machine from time to time.

Varied drinking pleasure thanks to coffee capsules

There are many different types of coffee capsules – so you have plenty of variety in your cup. So you can enjoy a delicious crema in the morning and a strong espresso in between. In households with several people, everyone can brew their favorite type of coffee whenever they like.

Coffee capsules are therefore not only ideal for preparing individual portions, but are also very popular with families where everyone prefers a different type, or in offices where individual portions are regularly prepared.

Wood is one of the most popular materials for furniture. It creates a cozy and warm atmosphere, is easy to care for, robust, and can be easily repaired in the event of damage. It is therefore worth buying solid wood furniture. We have all the advantages of this furniture and the best providers of solid wood beds at a glance.

What is solid wood?

If a cupboard or a table is described as solid wood furniture, the entire piece of furniture is not necessarily made from one piece of wood. This means that every part of the furniture – with the exception of the back panels and drawer bottoms – is made of solid wood. In addition, one type of wood is used throughout the furniture.

In contrast, veneered wooden furniture is constructed from chipboard or other glued or pressed panels made of wood materials. A thin decorative layer of wood – the veneer – is glued onto this. Accordingly, you will rarely find elements made of more expensive solid wood here. This type of construction also explains the difference in the price of furniture made of solid wood. Since the purchase of furniture is always a question of cost, wood veneer is often a good choice. Nevertheless, solid wood furniture has some advantages that justify the higher price.

Buy advantages of solid wood furniture

A distinction is usually made according to the type of wood from which the piece of furniture is made. Solid wood furniture is usually more expensive than furniture that is only veneered. Nevertheless, there are good reasons to choose furniture made of solid wood. If you love natural materials and are looking for a new piece of furniture, you should decide to buy solid wood furniture. The advantages of solid wood furniture are as follows:

  • Unique look: With solid wood furniture, you can see the material in its original form. Accordingly, every knothole, every adhesion, and the respective characteristics of the wood species contribute to the individual appearance of the piece of furniture. Since no two trees are alike, solid wood furniture is always unique.
  • Good for the room climate: Solid wood can absorb moisture and release it again, thus regulating the room climate. Surrounding yourself with wood is also good for your soul. Because it calms and promotes concentration at the same time.
  • Durable: Solid wood furniture is sturdy. If they do get a scratch, this tends to add to their charm. But you can easily touch up small blemishes and scratches. Because they are so indestructible, you often have solid wood furniture for a very long time, if not for the rest of your life.
  • Easy care: wooden furniture that has not been treated at all should be protected from moisture. So always wipe up spilled liquids immediately. Otherwise, the care of the wood is very uncomplicated: simply wiping with a soft cloth is enough to remove dust.

Solid wood furniture comes in many different styles

When it comes to solid wood furniture, many people think of dark oak wall units that appear immovable. They still exist, but the variety of designs and styles is much greater. In different designs and in combination with other materials, solid wood furniture fits in very different furnishing styles. Whether minimalistic-Scandinavian, metallic-industrial, or romantic-rural: solid wood furniture easily finds its place in all of these styles. But also when buying solid wood furniture, note the sustainability of this furniture. The wood should come from controlled forestry and be marked with quality seals.

Stable solid wood beds for healthy sleep

Solid wood beds are stable and comfortable. The frame made of solid wood takes on the most important function. Since this is a naturally grown material, it looks just as beautiful. It can be used to design just about any bedroom. This is how modern beds with rustic elements are created. Depending on the type of wood, you can choose from different shades. An integrated headboard provides a comfortable way to sit in bed so you can watch TV or read a book.

The frame plays the supporting role for the slatted frame and the mattress. So choose each element carefully. So that you can choose the slatted frame and mattress according to your own needs, solid wood beds are usually offered without a slatted frame. Because the individual selection ensures healthy and better sleep. With the right mattress and a modern mattress topper, the solid wood bed is now complete. Be sure to consider your body weight and sleeping habits.

Can you eat chard raw so as not to destroy the heat-sensitive nutrients? Here’s why raw Swiss chard isn’t the healthiest choice for everyone.

Eating chard raw: these are the advantages

Swiss chard is a particularly nutritious vegetable, but many important nutrients are heat-sensitive. Although the minerals and vitamins are not completely destroyed during cooking or roasting, their proportion is lower than with raw vegetables. This applies to vitamin C, for example.

It is therefore advisable to also include raw food in your diet. The benefits of raw Swiss chard are:
The nutrients are largely retained.
You can prepare or refine delicious salads with chard.
You can use large chard leaves creatively, for example as wraps instead of classic wheat flour wraps.
Raw Swiss chard gives green smoothies an aromatic taste.

Eating chard raw: You should pay attention to this

However, raw chard is only suitable for consumption to a limited extent. In addition to all the health-promoting nutrients, the plant also contains oxalic acid.

Oxalic acid is a naturally occurring fruit acid that is not inherently harmful or toxic.
The body produces them itself and we ingest them daily through many plant-based foods such as rhubarb and spinach.
But too much oxalic acid can also be harmful: it promotes the formation of kidney stones and inhibits the absorption of iron.
In its raw state, Swiss chard contains the most oxalic acid – when it is boiled or roasted, the proportion is reduced. Raw chard should therefore only be eaten in moderation so as not to take in too much oxalic acid. People with kidney disease or iron deficiency should not eat chard raw at all.

It’s a good thing that chard also tastes great when cooked, is healthy and can be used in a variety of ways: leaf chard can be used like spinach, for example, while stem chard is a suitable alternative to asparagus.

Chard: Healthy and aromatic leafy greens

Only recently has chard been found more frequently at the weekly markets and on our plates. For a long time it was overtaken by spinach. Both vegetables can be used in a similar way, but the spinach won out with its milder taste. Botanically speaking, Swiss chard is more closely related to beetroot and sugar beets, but we don’t eat the tubers, but the leaves and stalks. Depending on the characteristics of these parts of the plant, a distinction is made between leaf and stem chard.

Some appreciate the chard because of its strong, slightly tart and aromatic taste, others because it has a considerable repertoire of nutrients. These include, for example:
Vitamins: Swiss chard is a real vitamin bomb and contains vitamins C, E and K, among other things. 100 grams of Swiss chard contain 39 milligrams of vitamin C, which is one of the antioxidants and is essential for protecting cells from free radicals.
Iron: Green leafy vegetables are the most important plant source of iron and sometimes even beat meat in terms of iron content. Swiss chard, for example, has 2.7 milligrams of iron per 100 grams, while the iron content of meat is 1 to 2.5 milligrams of iron per 100 grams. Iron is responsible for oxygen transport and energy metabolism in the body. The trace element ensures that we remain efficient and active.
Beta carotene: is a secondary plant substance from the carotenoid family and a precursor of vitamin A. Beta carotene takes on important functions in cell metabolism and cell protection and we need it for healthy skin, eyes and hair.
Chlorophyll: the plant pigment allows plants to photosynthesize and helps us stay healthy. Because the leafy green helps with oxygen transport, the formation of new blood cells and the purification of the blood.

The advantages of the sparkling water maker at a glance. Instead of lugging around those water bottles forever. If you want to eat healthily, you also need to drink plenty of water. It should be at least 1.5 liters of fluid a day, and if you sweat a lot, then you should drink even more.

The problem of daily water

It’s important to pay attention to what you’re drinking on a daily basis. Because the body must be supplied with sufficient liquid. Sugary sodas won’t quench your thirst, nor are they healthy. Since they are real calorie bombs, they destroy all good diet plans. Therefore, it is best to drink pure water. At least 1.5 – 3 liters daily are recommended. But for most people, this is not satisfactory.

As a result, many buy sparkling mineral water. And that’s a lot better. But hauling liters of water into the apartment is very exhausting. After all, the average German drinks more than 130 liters of mineral and sparkling water per year. Taking away the returnable bottles is just as annoying. If you feel the same way, the solution is a sparkling water maker.

What is a water bubbler?

A water bubbler ensures more environmental protection in the household. These devices direct carbon dioxide from a CO2 cartridge into a connected water bottle, which is filled with tap water. The best known in Germany are the Sodastream brand water bubblers, but of course, there are also devices from other manufacturers. They enable the rapid production of sparkling water. As a result, you save yourself the hassle of lugging around and taking the deposit away. Consequently, one of many good tips is to avoid heavy crates of drinks. And now there are also flavor additives with which you can enrich the water for even more variety.

Advantages and disadvantages of the water bubbler

If you like drinking sparkling water, you should consider getting a bubbler for your home. Because such a water bubbler offers many advantages. On the other hand, the disadvantages are minor. The mineral water comparison by Stiftung Warentest shows that mineral water is not always free of pollutants. Tap water offers advantages here. Because it is better controlled and contains more nutrients than mineral water.

The best sparkling water makers from the internet

So one thing is certain: if you drink a lot of sparkling water, you should buy a sparkling water maker. If there is too much lime in the tap water, you can decalcify it. Because in the long run, you will benefit from the homemade sparkling water. In addition, there are now beautiful and clever devices. When buying a soda maker, you should pay attention to sufficiently large bottles. For many, one liter is not enough because it is drunk quickly. It is also advantageous if the bottles are dishwasher-safe or easy to clean.

In the trade, a distinction is made between refined and native oils. But what exactly are refined oils? Here’s a little about their pros and cons.

Manufacturing makes the difference

Refined and native oils differ in their production: Native oils are gently cold-pressed. This means that they are manufactured at low temperatures and without the use of chemicals. Due to the gentle processing, many healthy ingredients are retained, such as vitamins and unsaturated fatty acids.

Refined oils, on the other hand, are extracted under the influence of heat and chemicals.
The oil is hot pressed.
Solvents such as hexane or light petroleum are used during extraction.
This method is used to extract more oil than cold pressing. However, refined oils are not unhealthy or toxic because of this: the chemical residues are then removed from the oil. The oil is heated up to 240°C for several hours for cleaning. This process is called refining.

This means that there are no longer any unwanted chemical substances in the oil. However, the oil also loses vitamins, unsaturated fatty acids and taste. This means that the oil is not unhealthy or harmful, but it is also not as healthy as native oils. However, refined oils also have advantages in their use.

Pros and cons of refined oil

Advantages are:
Refined oil is more heat resistant. Only use refined oils for hot frying. They are also better suited for cooking. When native oils are heated too much, smoke and pollutants are formed. So for this purpose, refined oils are healthier than virgin oils.
Refined oils are cheaper to produce than virgin oils. Accordingly, they also cost less in the store.
The more heavily treated oils tend to be more tasteless. This can be an advantage for cooking if you don’t want the oil to taste too bad.
Due to the strong treatment, refined oils have a longer shelf life than native oils.
Disadvantages are:
The hot pressing and long heating takes more energy.
Refined oil contains fewer valuable ingredients than virgin oil, such as vitamins and unsaturated fatty acids.
The fact that refined oils are less flavorful can also be a disadvantage. In salads, the taste of native oil is quite appropriate.
Harmful trans-fatty acids can be produced during deodorization, a sub-process of refining.
In general, refined oils are not inherently unhealthy. For some purposes such as cooking and frying, they are very well suited because of their heat resistance. Depending on the purpose for which you want to use the oil, you should choose the right oil.

The vegan diet has many advantages – but also risks. We explain what you have to consider if you eat vegan, what the rules are and how the environment and your health can benefit from them.

Many people label a vegan diet as “radical” or “extreme.” For them it is often not clear why people eat vegan. After all, if you don’t want animals to be slaughtered, you can also eat vegetarian food.

Vegans, on the other hand, not only do without meat and fish, but also all products of animal origin. This also applies to eggs and dairy products, for example.

Why are vegans so strict? Because products other than meat also kill animals. For example, only female animals are necessary for the production of eggs. When the offspring hatch, the male chicks are often gassed or shredded directly. The female chicks are used as laying hens.

The situation is similar with male calves: Since they cannot give milk, they are often slaughtered prematurely. The killing of the young males is closely linked to the production of milk and eggs.

In addition to the killing of many animals, the husbandry conditions are also a common reason for eating vegan. Most farm animals experience suffering and stress when they are kept and raised in factory farms. Many animals are also injured during transport.

Is a vegan diet healthier?

It is not easy to make statements about how healthy a vegan lifestyle is. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that vegan nutrition has not been researched for long. On the other hand, vegans may generally pay more attention to a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. What we know:
According to the German Society for Nutrition (DGE), vegans have a lower risk of diseases caused by poor nutrition. Examples include obesity and diabetes.
A plant-based diet can lower cholesterol. This can prevent heart disease, for example.
A vegan diet can help treat obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
The World Health Organization has confirmed that red and processed meat increase the risk of developing cancer. That’s why you should avoid it.
For whom a vegan diet is suitable and for whom it is not depends on the individual. The most important aspects:
A vegan diet in children is controversial and associated with risks. If you want to feed your children vegan, you should inform yourself in detail beforehand and preferably speak to a doctor.
Veganism can also be risky during breastfeeding and pregnancy because nutrient deficiencies can harm your baby. In these phases of life, you should therefore only eat vegan after consulting a doctor.
Eating a purely plant-based diet does not affect performance. Many competitive athletes eat vegan, for example the American professional boxer Mike Tyson.
Like everyone else, vegans must ensure that they eat a varied and balanced diet. The vegan food pyramid can help you with this.

Vegan diet: prevent deficiencies

Certain nutrients occur more often or only in animal products. If you decide to follow a vegan diet, you should find out exactly which plant sources you can get these nutrients from – otherwise you may develop deficiency symptoms. This applies in particular to the following nutrients:
Vitamin D,
essential fatty acids,
calcium and
Iron.
Under the linked articles you can read about the foods in which the substances are found.

It is more difficult with vitamin B12: The vitamin is mainly found in fish, but also in dairy products and eggs. Therefore, if you follow a vegan diet, you may need to take vitamin B12 supplements. Clarify this with your family doctor.

Environmental balance of a purely plant-based diet

A vegan diet requires significantly fewer resources than one that includes animal products. An example explains why this is so:
In order to grow vegetables and grains, the crops must be grown, watered regularly and finally harvested after a few months.
The situation is different with meat or animal products: an animal needs water and feed regularly for years, which in turn has to be cultivated first.
For example, one kilogram of beef contains:
about 5 kilograms of grain,
approx. 15,000 liters of water (for the feed and also for the animal itself)
a usable area of 27 to 49 square meters.
The digestion of the cow also produces 22 kilograms of greenhouse gases per kilogram of meat. With a vegan diet, on the other hand, you can reduce your carbon footprint.

Many vegans are accused of polluting the environment by consuming soy products. For this it can be stated:
In fact, the cultivation of soy is often not ecological. According to the WWF, soybeans are mainly imported. 80 percent of the soy used as animal feed in Germany comes directly from South America.
Parts of the rainforest are cleared for cultivation. After the soy has been harvested, the areas mostly lie fallow.
But it is also a fact that most of the soy (98 percent) is used as feed for animals in factory farming. The beans are a popular feed for fattening animals because they gain weight particularly quickly.
Only two percent of the soy grown worldwide is processed into tofu or soy milk at all.
The soy that is processed into food for humans usually grows in Europe. Organic soy often comes from Germany.
Factory farming thus contributes significantly to the deforestation of the rainforest. This is driving species extinction and we are losing an important carbon store on earth.

Nevertheless, not every vegan product is automatically sustainable:
Vegan foods generally cause fewer greenhouse gases than animal products. However, if you buy fruit and vegetables out of season, the environmental footprint of your vegan diet will deteriorate. Because the food has to travel long distances by plane or is grown in heated greenhouses.
For example, when tomatoes (PDF) are grown in a heated greenhouse in winter, they emit ten times more greenhouse gases than locally grown tomatoes during the season.
Even heavily processed meat substitute products are not very ecological. They are processed in many energy-intensive steps and cause packaging waste. Therefore, you should not eat such products too often. In addition, meat substitutes often contain a lot of fat, sugar and unhealthy additives.
Caution is also advised when it comes to trendy superfood: avocado, chia seeds and the like are healthy, but are often flown in from far away. As a rule, there are regional alternatives for these foods, such as flaxseed or hemp seeds.
