As a bartender, you deal with many different people every day – and they all want something from you. Some are friendly, others flirt for a drink for free, others get cheeky. What should party guests never say?

10 phrases you shouldn’t say to bartenders

There are so many phrases bartenders hear so often they just can’t take it anymore. If you want to do your bartender a favor, you should better not say the following 10 sentences:

“Put more alcohol in the next drink, okay?” – If you personally don’t feel the alcohol, it may be more your own inhibitions than the bartender. After all, there are usually fixed mixing specifications for every drink.
“Hey dude, cool to see you again.” – Bartenders tend to see so many people on a daily basis that they probably won’t remember you.
“Man, when I was still waiting tables, I could do it faster.” – You can really offend someone with such sentences. In the end, you may be the one to suffer. Sometimes there is just a lot going on and everyone tries to do their best. Appreciation and a “thank you” can usually do much more than being annoyed.
“I drink the same as you.”- This statement is based on the cliché that every bartender also drinks alcohol in the evening. But this is not the case: not everyone who works with alcohol automatically drinks some.
“Hey, it’s my birthday. Are you buying one?” Bartenders hear this phrase so often that it’s usually never true. After all, everyone can say what they want.
“Tell me, can’t you swap out the DJ?” – The bartender usually has nothing to do with the DJ; consequently, he or she usually cannot change anything about the music in the bar.
“Hey bartender, can you actually smile?” – bartenders are often under stress or can sometimes be annoyed by the people in front of the bar. So it’s completely understandable that he doesn’t always have a smile on his face.
“Will you give me your number?” – Bartenders are generally not interested in exchanging numbers with customers. They just want to do their job – and you should respect that.
“I would have liked to have shaken my drink, not stirred it.” Often customers don’t even know the difference. In many cases they only know one drink and only make the statement to appear intelligent.
“Hey, can you store my jacket here for a moment?” – The bartender is not responsible for checking clothes. His job is to mix the drinks, not act as a cloakroom.

Instead of these 10 sentences, you can put a smile on the face of many a bartender or make the stressful job easier if you are friendly, show understanding and sometimes say “thank you”. This makes partying fun on both sides of the bar.

Hardly any supermarket has windows. There is a clever trick behind it. Of course, we can already anticipate that this is about the money. And that of the customers.

Supermarket tricks

Supermarkets use a wide variety of tricks to turn their own customers into even more profitable customers. A very special trick are the missing windows. Of course there are some at the front where current offers are also attached, but that’s often the case.

There is a pretty clever effect behind this, which should lure even more money out of our pockets. By the way, arcades and casinos also use it. Overall, all supermarkets are always built according to a perfectly thought-out scheme, which is said to have numerous influences on us. The missing windows have a very simple reason: the longer customers stay in the supermarket, the more money is spent. When you can’t look outside, it’s hard to tell the time. This will keep you in the store for up to an hour.

There are other reasons too: direct sunlight can cause packaging to fade and no longer look high-quality. In addition, window fronts can only be blocked with shelves with difficulty, which means that supermarkets gain space by omitting the windows.

What other tricks are there?

Have you ever noticed that most supermarkets have tile floors? On the one hand, this can be easily cleaned, on the other hand, the shopping trolleys make a lot of noise on it. In order not to attract attention, most people then walk very slowly through the store.

This also tempts you to browse a little more and thus spend more money. Tricks like this quickly end up with things that we didn’t need at all. If the supermarket gets a little fuller, then pay attention to the music: It will probably be more dynamic and faster. This drives people on, so the store empties a bit quickly.

In this way, among other things, we as customers are constantly guided and influenced without us noticing it directly. You can only avoid these effects if you think carefully beforehand about what to buy.

In a study, the most boring person in the world was symbolically searched for. In the following we present the criteria for this and you may also find yourself in them.

What was examined in the study?

A team of British researchers went in search of boredom. Research was carried out into characteristics that lead to people being perceived as boring. To do this, researchers from the University of Essex conducted various tests and surveys involving over 500 people.

It was possible to find out which hobbies and jobs most people find boring. The results were recently published in the psychological journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.

However, the study was mainly about the perception of different jobs and hobbies and not about specific character traits. Whether the person behind the facade is really boring is of course always to be judged individually.

Who is boring – according to the study?

A person who works in accounting, likes to sleep in and watch TV, lives in a small town and is religious is perceived as the most boring. According to the study, such a person is a symbol of a stereotypical bore.

In particular, jobs in data analysis, taxes/insurance or in cleaning and banking are perceived as particularly boring. If these jobs are combined with leisure activities such as sleeping, religion, watching TV, watching animals or mathematics, then one is quickly considered boring.

In addition, people who do not live in a village or in a small town are more interesting. As a result, boring people are less likely to be liked and more likely to be avoided, according to study leader Dr. Wijnand van Tilburg.

On the other hand, who is interesting and why?

Because of the way you shape your own life, it can happen that other people find you boring. Without them really knowing the people behind it. Other people spend less time with these people and the conversations are also more superficial. Then boredom actually becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

On the other hand, these jobs are perceived as particularly interesting:
artistic or performing professions
Jobs in the scientific field
Journalism professions
Medical Professions
the activity as a teacher.
The paradox is that jobs that are perceived as boring are often very important and these people have a lot of power within society.

A lot of overpriced food in the supermarket is not only unhealthy, but also unnecessary. We show you delicious and homemade alternatives.

Finished products: Expensive and often unhealthy

The classic finished products that often end up in the shopping cart are:
Drinks: Lemonade, iced tea and co. are wonderfully refreshing, especially in between. However, flavored sugar water costs a lot and it often doesn’t stay with one bottle.
Frozen goods: There are plenty of pizza, cakes or garlic baguettes in the freezer. To make the products fresh, aromatic and juicy after baking, you need a lot of fat and often too much salt.
Sauces and Dressings: Salad dressings, ketchup, and burger sauces tend to be expensive and contain too many additives. The highly processed foods are also very high in calories.
Snacks: A quick smoothie to go? Thats expensive! The pureed fruits sometimes cost almost three euros per 250 milliliters. This is much more expensive than fresh fruit and vegetables. In addition, in many cases there is also a lot of unnecessary sugar. Even muesli bars are now anything but cheap. On the other hand, the proportion of healthy nuts, kernels and seeds is rather low.
These are just a few examples that show that it is better to look closely at the list of ingredients. Of course there are also good products in organic quality, which can also secure a place in the shopping trolley. However, you can easily make many drinks and snacks yourself!

This is how it works: make delicious alternatives yourself

Many products that you can buy in the supermarket can be imitated without much effort and for much less money. In addition, you avoid preservatives, unhealthy fats or a lot of sugar. Here are three quick recipes to enjoy:
Make a delicious and healthy smoothie in just a few minutes: Simply puree 200 grams of frozen berries, 1 banana and 200 milliliters of orange juice and 100 milliliters of water. Your “berry-strong” smoothie is ready, without any additional sugar.
No time for an elaborate pizza? Really not? 350 grams of flour, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 200 milliliters of water, 3 teaspoons of baking powder and half a teaspoon of salt. Knead everything well, roll out and top with tomato sauce, cheese and toppings of your choice. Place in the oven at 250 degrees and bake for about 10 minutes.
Salad dressing without sugar and effort: 150 grams of yoghurt, 100 milliliters of apple juice, 2 tablespoons of fresh herbs of your choice, salt and pepper. Mix everything well and you have a healthy dressing for your salad!
Our conclusion: Finished products really don’t always have to be. You can prepare many things quickly and inexpensively in your own kitchen. It’s not only healthier, it’s also a lot more fun. Get creative and make your own garlic baguette, your new favorite pizza or a refreshing iced tea!
