Hardly any supermarket has windows. There is a clever trick behind it. Of course, we can already anticipate that this is about the money. And that of the customers.

Supermarket tricks

Supermarkets use a wide variety of tricks to turn their own customers into even more profitable customers. A very special trick are the missing windows. Of course there are some at the front where current offers are also attached, but that’s often the case.

There is a pretty clever effect behind this, which should lure even more money out of our pockets. By the way, arcades and casinos also use it. Overall, all supermarkets are always built according to a perfectly thought-out scheme, which is said to have numerous influences on us. The missing windows have a very simple reason: the longer customers stay in the supermarket, the more money is spent. When you can’t look outside, it’s hard to tell the time. This will keep you in the store for up to an hour.

There are other reasons too: direct sunlight can cause packaging to fade and no longer look high-quality. In addition, window fronts can only be blocked with shelves with difficulty, which means that supermarkets gain space by omitting the windows.

What other tricks are there?

Have you ever noticed that most supermarkets have tile floors? On the one hand, this can be easily cleaned, on the other hand, the shopping trolleys make a lot of noise on it. In order not to attract attention, most people then walk very slowly through the store.

This also tempts you to browse a little more and thus spend more money. Tricks like this quickly end up with things that we didn’t need at all. If the supermarket gets a little fuller, then pay attention to the music: It will probably be more dynamic and faster. This drives people on, so the store empties a bit quickly.

In this way, among other things, we as customers are constantly guided and influenced without us noticing it directly. You can only avoid these effects if you think carefully beforehand about what to buy.

The window is rather small, does not have the usual standard dimensions, is also located on the sloping roof of a room, and allows it to heat up properly thanks to the intense sunlight. And you’re already faced with a problem: how and, above all, what is the best way to darken such a small window? Is it even possible to find a roller blind, blind, or something similar for these unusual dimensions?

The answer is: Yes, there really is and it’s not that difficult to find privacy and sun protection even for the most improbable outside dimensions of a window. Pleated blinds have proven to be ideal partners for such purposes in particular. They are easy to use, come in a wide variety of shapes and colors, and are just as easy to attach and replace.

The right pleated blind for every window

Pleated blinds have proven particularly useful for windows that are on sloping ceilings. Thanks to their lightness, the simple attachment, and finally also because they can be wonderfully integrated into any room in terms of color, they are the masters of the pleated blinds. The incidence of light, as well as the indirect sun protection, can be controlled and varied as you wish. The different settings of the slats allow a view of the outside, but they are still completely airtight for a view of the inside from the outside. Pleated blinds are therefore very popular, especially in bathrooms and guest toilets.

But the most common use is on unusual window positions, such as on sloping ceilings. The fit of a pleated blind can be precisely tailored and there is also plenty of scopes when choosing the color and size of the individual slats. Even the respective material and the respective operation of the pleated blind can be very different. You can also use them to protect and cool your home from the heat in summer.

Pleats can also be found on doors

The fact that pleated blinds are extremely versatile is shown by pleated blinds that are attached to front doors, for example. With simple operation, such pleated blinds can be easily attached to doors and finally operated. Pleated blinds that can be pushed from bottom to top and vice versa are particularly popular. These special folding blinds are usually made of very light and yet extremely durable material.

The folding technique allows them to be pushed together and pulled apart very easily, similar to an accordion. If you now choose a pleated blind in a light yellow tone for the kitchen door, for example, the incident daylight and, above all, the sunlight is intensified, but without too much solar radiation being able to heat the room. The room looks friendly, and bright and is filled with a summery atmosphere, and is still completely opaque.

Pleated blinds for children’s rooms and bedrooms

Precisely because pleated blinds are so easy to use, they are used in children’s rooms just as often as in bedrooms. Pleated blinds made of metal are suitable for children’s rooms, so they can be easily cleaned at any time. A bold hue blocks too much sun exposure, but is still a nice and fresh splash of color to the room.

The flexibility of the height adjustment allows them to be quickly pulled down when the child goes to bed and during the day at half-height only let in as much sunlight as is necessary for playing and romping. Pleated blinds are the ideal partners in bedrooms. They allow sunlight to come in conditionally and at will, are opaque, and still allow a view outside. With open windows, they always allow sufficient air circulation thanks to their fine slats, even if they are completely closed. In addition, note tips for properly cleaning windows without streaks.

An everyday tip for cleaning skylights and Velux windows is to wipe and dry with a broom handle. Conventional window wipers often leave stripes and streaks in the hard-to-reach corners of the outside area. With simple tools, cleaning windows is easy to do without a ladder. All you need is a broomstick, a microfiber cloth, and hot soapy water – a glass scraper or a simple razor blade will help with very stubborn dirt.

Cleaning the skylight

Anyone who has sloping walls in their home knows the problem of dirty Velux windows. Either the windows cannot be turned far enough so that you could get into every corner of the outside window when cleaning and there are streaks or deposits in the areas that cannot be reached, or the windows are mounted so high that cleaning is not possible without a ladder or stool, let alone removing more stubborn dirt.

Cleaning the Velux windows

Since I’m only 1.60m tall, I’ve always had problems reaching the upper window frontage. I used to clean the windows with one of the commercially available window wipers with a telescopic rod, but I always had the problem of the window corners not really being wiped clean, especially on the outside of the Velux windows. Today I use a simple microfiber cloth and regular hot soapy water – I wrap the microfiber cloth around a broom handle long enough for me to reach every corner. The pressure that you exert on the window with this handle is enough to easily remove even more stubborn stains and deposits.

Dry skylight

I do the same thing with a broomstick to dry the windows. Incidentally, the microfiber cloth absorbs so well that no streaks or streaks remain. The broomstick also gets into every corner of the window when drying, from the outside and from the inside. The entire window area is quickly dried in this way.

Remove stubborn dirt

Very rarely there is dirt on Velux windows that cannot be removed with normal hot soapy water, for example, deposits such as cement or fungi that also settle on roofs. For this purpose, you can easily use a glass scraper for a ceramic hob in the lower area of a Velux window. But you can’t get to the upper area again. For this purpose, I bought very simple razor blades, which I carefully hammer into the handle end of the broom with the help of a hammer. There they stay firmly in place, allowing the deposits on the glass surface of the Velux window to be scraped off.
