Swimming in summer: This is how you protect yourself

It also makes sense to regularly apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30) to your skin to prevent sunburn. You should also drink enough water so that your body does not become dehydrated and your circulation does not become sluggish.

A head covering, an umbrella or the shade of a tree are also beneficial to protect yourself from the high levels of sunlight.

With this valuable knowledge, you are armed against dangers and nothing stands in the way of you spending a relaxed and sunny day by the water. Preferably without sunburn, accidents and injuries, but with lots of fun and a good mood!

Summer is getting closer and with it, you also want to spend a day or two at a bathing lake? Below you will find some valuable tips and suggestions so that the planned vacation day at the beach does not literally fall into the water. Above all, the topics of sun protection, beach luggage and clothing, the best place to lie, and the right behavior in the water are discussed.

Pay attention to sun protection at the bathing lake

If you don’t like swimming in the pool, you can go to the bathing lake. Even if a German bathing lake is not the Adriatic Sea or the Caribbean, you should still pay attention to adequate sun protection to avoid sunburn. The reflections from the light sand and the water surface should not be underestimated and significantly increase the UV exposure compared to a normal stay outdoors. In spring, you can choose a sun protection factor of 50, which is even more important for children and people with sensitive skin.

For sun-accustomed beachgoers, at least an SPF of 20-30 should be used. It is advisable to apply lotion in the bathroom at home before you leave. This doesn’t take up valuable beach time and also allows for greater mindfulness. If you want to avoid excessive UV exposure, it is best to visit the bathing lake in the morning until around 11 a.m. or in the afternoon from 3 p.m. If available, taking a small parasol with you can’t be wrong.

This belongs in the bathing lake luggage

For a pleasant stay at the beach, it is actually essential to take a larger blanket with you. After all, you don’t want to sit in the sand all the time, especially since it can get quite hot when the outside temperatures are high. A ball, books, magazines, or a few board games can help pass the time. Be sure to take enough liquid with you. Since you can quickly be attacked by cravings after a longer stay in the water, you should also pack a few small snacks, fruit, biscuits, or sandwiches for the perfect picnic at the bathing lake.

A cool box is recommended for storage. If you plan to have a barbecue on the beach, you should find out about the beach regulations beforehand. Do not forget sunscreen and, if necessary, sunglasses. Of course, if you go into the water, you also need a towel or, even better, a beach towel. A little change for an ice cream can’t go amiss, but it’s better not to bring unnecessary valuables with you, especially if you expect to lose sight of your own spot on the beach for a long time.

The beachwear

First of all: Don’t necessarily put on your best and most beautiful shoes on the beach. A few grains of sand always get in, which will probably annoy you for days and, in the worst case, lead to blisters when you visit the beach in your everyday shoes. Sandals are of course predestined for going to the beach. Otherwise, light-colored, comfortable clothing is recommended. Even a sun hat or a baseball cap can’t hurt if you spend a lot of time in the blazing sun. However, given the hot temperatures during the day, many beach visitors tend to forget to bring a jacket or sweater. But these will do a good job if the weather changes suddenly or if you stay until the evening.

Choose the right place at the bathing lake

Arriving at the beach, the first thing to do is to find a suitable place to lie. If you choose one close to the water, you won’t have far to go for a swim. Places at the upper end of the beach usually allow a better view of the landscape. Instead of lying in the blazing sun, most people find it more comfortable to choose a spot in the semi-shade. Be sure to pay attention to the course of the sun if you spend several hours on the beach. Instead of being satisfied with the first place that comes along, it can also make more sense to first search the entire beach area and only then make a decision.

Look for out-of-the-way spots and try not to place yourself directly on the main paths, because even if the number of visitors is still low when you arrive, this can change quickly during the course of the day. It goes without saying that the beach site will be left in at least the condition in which it was found. If a storm is coming, you should protect yourself from the storm and leave the water immediately. It is best to go to a nearby building or a car.

Jumping into the cool water

Avoid jumping into the water directly from the hot beach, especially on hot days. Acclimate your body gradually, stepping into the water only up to your knees first, then up to your hips, and then up to your navel, waiting a few minutes between each step. This protects the circulatory system and is essential, especially for sensitive people. Never jump into unfamiliar places and watch where you step.

Unfortunately, broken glass bottles are still a regular nuisance on some busy beaches. But mussel shells, sharp stones, or twigs lying in the water can also lead to injuries. Only swim as far as you dare. Longer swimming tours should only be undertaken in pairs, especially if there is no lifeguard on duty. After being in the water, you should always dry yourself immediately and exchange your wet swimwear for dry clothing if you don’t want to go back into the water. Otherwise, a cold will probably remind you of the beach stay for days.

Bathing and washing dogs are rarely necessary. But if you want to clean your dog, you should follow a few important rules. Shampoo selection is an important topic. That’s why we have recipes for making dog shampoo yourself.

How often do you have to bathe and wash dogs?

Dogs have sebaceous glands all over their bodies, which supply the coat with a self-cleaning protective layer of fat. Since this is lost when you bathe your dog, it is more of a disadvantage for the dog’s skin if you bathe it too often. You can also brush normal dirt out of the fur quite well. You should therefore only bathe your dog in exceptional situations, e.g. when the fur really stinks. Bathing dogs can also be necessary for medical reasons, such as skin diseases, and as directed by the doctor. So once or twice a month is enough.

Getting used to washing as a puppy

Dogs learn to be housebroken as puppies. And so they can also learn how to bathe. Therefore, you should bathe them once in a while from a young age. But here, too, less is more. In any case, a few treats will help you to ensure that you do everything right when training and bathing your dog. As a rule, you should always carefully introduce your dog to new things so that they don’t become afraid of them. The same applies to getting used to the dog transport box, driving a car in general, or even washing.

Dog bathing and cleaning instructions

If you want to bathe your dogs, it is important to follow a few rules so that the dog does not get injured and there are no negative consequences for your companion. Make your own dog shampoo
As already mentioned, you should use a mild and special dog shampoo because it is moisturizing. However, some commercially available dog shampoos contain unnecessary fragrances and additives. It can therefore be worth making your own dog shampoo. There are some good homemade dog shampoo recipes online, such as the following three recipes:

  1. To make your own dog shampoo, mix half a cup of oatmeal with half a cup of baking soda. Then add half a cup of cold water. You can then use the slightly viscous mixture to wash your dog. It will keep in a closed container in the fridge for a few days.
  2. Or make your own dog shampoo by mixing 1 cup of sulfate-free, plant-based liquid soap with 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, 80 ml of glycerin, and 1 quart of water. Then you can add a few drops of tea tree oil or lavender oil. Thus, it also serves as a means against fleas.
  3. A very simple dog shampoo recipe is to mix 4 tablespoons of grated soap with 4 cups of hot water and 1 cup of apple cider vinegar. Again, you can add essential oils or a teaspoon of aloe vera gel.

As spring draws to a close and temperatures rise, many people think of the upcoming bathing season. Numerous outdoor pools open their doors at the end of May, weather permitting. It’s high time to look around for the latest swimwear models.

Time for a new swimsuit?

The bathing season officially begins in most regions of Germany at the end of May and the beginning of June. Outdoor pools throughout Germany open their doors and give residents of the country the opportunity to cool off in the water when the temperatures are hot. In the outdoor pool, every woman wants to show her most beautiful side.

Although not every woman corresponds to the 90-60-90 ideal of beauty, that doesn’t mean that every woman can’t look good in a bathing suit – quite the opposite. With the right choice, every woman can show her most beautiful side in the outdoor pool.

Cover the O-figure with the tankini

Women blessed with an O-shape are curvy in the hip and waist area. Some of them have a small belly, an above-average décolleté, and expansive hips. The legs are comparatively slender. Neither legs nor the décolleté are a problem when choosing a bikini. Women can only conceal the abdominal region with a suitable swimsuit.

The bikini is and will remain the favorite in swimwear. However, it is not ideal for women with an O-shape. Stylists tend to recommend the tankini instead. It is a good choice for women with this figure to cover the problem area “stomach”.

Tankinis are the best choice for women who weigh a little more. That doesn’t mean that the tankini can’t be worn by slimmer women – quite the opposite. Their figure is particularly emphasized by the tankini. Women with a lush décolleté choose a variant with a halterneck top, which is low-cut.

When buying the bikini alternative, make sure that it is made of a material that dries quickly, as this swimsuit is made of a lot of fabric.

Accentuate the X-shape with the bikini

Women with the X shape have a physique where the hips and shoulders are about the same size. This comes very close to today’s ideal of beauty 90-60-90. Women who have such a body have feminine thighs, a firm bottom, and a beautiful chest area.

For women with an X-body shape, the bikini is without question the right swimwear. Practically every shape, look and color choice of bikini is suitable for this year’s bathing season. The selection of the bikini should be based on personal preferences in terms of design and material. In this online shop, women can be inspired by the current bikini fashion and get an overview of patterns that are in demand this year.

Ladies with large bust sizes should not only pay attention to the pattern. For them, it is important that the top fits well and does not slip when bathing.

Emphasize the A-figure with sporty tops

Ladies with an A-figure are very curvy underneath and their upper body is rather narrow and delicately built. Many women whose bodies are A-shaped also have strong buttocks and thighs.

Those who belong to this figure type wear sporty tops, as they conceal the problem area of this body type (from the hips). The aim is to direct the focus to the upper body with a sporty top.

To achieve this, women have the option of choosing eye-catching tops with patterns. From the waist down, women can hide a little with bikini bottoms that have high-cut legs.

Showing off the Y-shape and her slender legs

The Y-shape is the opposite of the A-shape: these women’s shoulders are broad, but the waist and hips are narrow. Women with a Y-shape usually have long, handsome legs that are slender in shape. Any woman who has such beautiful legs should accentuate them with a matching bikini. But with the Y-shape, the focus is also on the hips. In addition, women buy eye-catching bikini bottoms with colorful patterns or elaborate seams that draw everyone’s attention.

Create sexy curves for the H-shape

Women whose bodies are H-shaped have less rounded curves. That’s why these ladies should wear monokinis that have side cut-outs. The aim is to create volume so that the waist is more visible.

Large-busted women create volume by opting for a deep décolleté. High-waisted pants give the impression that the waist is feminine and curvy. This effect can be enhanced by using playful patterns and bold colors.

During the lunch break we like to have a good time with my harvest. We cook something delicious together, sit outside when the weather is good. It is not uncommon for Wanda to take her dog to the nearby forest in the evening and especially at the weekend. There she can take her time, take a break and gather new energy.

The forest, with its tall trees, some of which are centuries old, emanates a power and calm that awaken a feeling of security in us. At the same time, this complex ecosystem, which consists of bushes, herbs, wildflowers and a variety of animals, makes us happy and awakens our spirits.

Forest bathing – feel-good import from Japan

The Japanese have dedicated an entire field of study to the regenerative effect of the forest and have been researching the health effects that a walk in the forest can bring with them for several decades. This trend is called Shinrin Yoku, which in Japanese means something like bathing in the atmosphere of the forest. Entire forests of forest trails have been created to provide relaxation, stimulation and focus.

Swimming without a lake? This is how forest bathing works!

You don’t have to venture into the cold lake or dive into the sea of leaves for classic forest bathing. Rather, one is immersed in the cool and humid air, the tangy smell of fir trees, the sounds of birds and the soft and soothing green of the foliage. The forest can be perceived with every sense, you can surrender to it and get in intensive contact with it and the life in it.

Originally, Shinrin Yoku exercises were carried out in the forest, similar to Qigong. You can also encounter the forest through meditation exercises, cycling or a quiet walk. You can stroll carefully through the forest without much haste, take your time and look, feel and listen to what the forest has to show you. Astonishing effects can occur in your own body through this mindfulness and attention.

Tips to open up to the forest

There are no rules (but surely there’s no harm in turning off your phone…)
Perception and attention can be opened to all impressions of the forest
Walking meditations, i.e. an additional concentration on your own breath, can help to banish everyday worries for a moment and to fully engage with the experiences in the forest

Health effects of forest bathing

Some studies have examined the health effects of staying in the forest and have been able to prove that blood pressure and stress hormones in the human body are reduced and that muscles relax when bathing in the forest.

Health scientists in Tokyo have shown that a day in the forest can increase the number of human immune cells by 50%. Even if research results confirm our intuitive positive perception of the forest, the question remains: How does this stimulation arise?

50 shades of green

There are various explanations for this. From naturopathy comes the theory that the body subconsciously remembers that nature and the forest are our original habitat, offering us protection and nourishment. A psychological interpretation is that the scent of the forest evokes positive childhood memories and that this positive conditioning is also reflected in health. The coloring of the forest with its variety of green tones can also be responsible for calming the nerves and stimulating the immune system.

Whatever the reason why we feel so safe in the forest. The short vacation in the forest helps to reduce stress and to find relaxation.
