The market for milk alternatives is growing all the time. This makes it difficult for many people to keep track and remember which plant-based milk is suitable for what.

Everything you need to know about plant milk

There are many different milk alternatives on the market today. This includes milk made from nuts, grains, legumes or oilseeds. Basically, the production of a plant milk is not as complicated as one might think: the selected ingredient is watered or soaked, then ground dry or wet and finally mixed with water. Depending on the ingredient you choose, the drink is then boiled or fermented. Solids are filtered out. In order to refine the taste of the drink, additional oils, sweeteners and/or salt are added to individual solutions.

If you decide to buy a product from the trade, you should definitely pay attention to possible preservatives, sweeteners and emulsifiers. One way to avoid this and have control over the ingredients is to make your own dairy alternative. Materials you need for this are usually just a cheesecloth and a good blender. It is best to choose regional oats to make your oat milk. Soak about 100g whole oats in water for 12 hours. Then you sieve the water, add a liter of water to the grains and puree everything very finely. Now use a funnel and cheesecloth to help you pour the liquid directly into bottles. If you like the milk a bit more flavorful, you can also add salt, vanilla, cinnamon, honey or dates before mixing.

If you choose a milk alternative, you can bring variety into your everyday life on the one hand, but you can also consciously integrate certain nutrients into your diet on the other. There are also other reasons for using milk alternatives: if you make your own milk, you can use regional ingredients. In addition, when buying industrially produced milk, there are mainly regional, fair and organic offers, so that you can also do something good for the environment. According to the Albert Schweitzer Foundation, plant-based milk is more convincing than cow’s milk in terms of the ecological balance: The emission of greenhouse gases in relation to the production of milk alternatives is far below the value in cow’s milk production. Land consumption is also significantly lower. Furthermore, one can take action against animal suffering in the dairy industry: Cows in dairy farms are usually exposed to extreme physical and psychological stress. If you want to prevent this, it can be a good step against animal suffering to use plant milk.

The most well-known milk alternatives

One of the best-known milk alternatives is soy milk. It is considered to be particularly versatile and can be used for baking, for example, but also for making smoothies, in muesli or in coffee. Soy has a very high protein content, which is why it is often chosen by athletes to support muscle building. Milk contains valuable potassium and magnesium, but also iron, zinc and many B vitamins. Depending on what you want to use the drink for, you can fall back on one of the different variants on the market: There is unsweetened and sweetened soy milk, some with vanilla, chocolate or banana flavor and mixed forms with rice or oat milk. If you choose a soy drink with added chia or linseed oil, you can add valuable omega-3 fatty acids to your diet, for example.

According to surveys, oat milk is the most popular milk substitute. It convinces above all with its richness in potassium and phosphorus; The fiber also has a stimulating effect on your digestion. Characteristic of oat drinks is the light and natural sweetness, so that no sugar is usually added. Compared to whole milk, oat milk is richer in unsaturated fatty acids. Oat milk is particularly popular in coffee, but can also be used in muesli, porridge or for baking.

The almond drink is particularly well-known: it is ideal for people who suffer from celiac disease, lactose or soy intolerance. One downside that milk brings is that many of the almond’s minerals are lost during soaking and filtering; however, 100 ml of almond milk contains approximately one to seven grams of unsaturated fatty acids, up to two grams of protein and traces of fiber. In order to increase the mineral content of this milk alternative again, artificial calcium or other minerals are usually added. Almond milk is mainly used to make drinks, dips, puddings or other desserts, as well as for daily muesli.

You should also know these drinks

If you like it a little more exotic, the coconut drink can be a great alternative for you: the coconut flavor is particularly popular in smoothies, cocktails and mueslis. The natural sweetness of the coconut drink can not only be used in sweet dishes, but also in savory dishes: you can use it to cook an exotic curry, for example. On the market, however, there is also the possibility to buy a drink with a slightly more subtle coconut flavor: There are, for example, mixed drinks with rice or almonds.

Among other things, the rice drink is rather unknown; nevertheless, it should not be ignored. Due to the fermentation during the manufacturing process, the rice drink has a slightly sweet taste: this means that the milk can be used in a variety of ways. The milk is particularly suitable for people who cannot use nut or soy milk due to allergies. The rice drink is also lactose- and gluten-free.

Pea drinks are currently not very common on the market, but they also have an increasingly high market potential. The advantages that the peas provide are the high protein content and relatively few calories. The protein content of around 8 to 10 grams per glass makes the milk alternative particularly interesting for athletes. The drink provides calcium and magnesium, added rapeseed oil supplies the body with omega-3 fatty acids. There are also different options for this milk: the original, the unsweetened and the barista milk, which is particularly suitable for frothing. Pea drinks can be used in muesli, but also in porridge, smoothies or coffee.

The only way to find out which milk substitute is best for you is to try it; However, the range is now so diverse that you can test a wide variety of products.

The properties of the materials for pots for cooking in comparison. Because the right material for the pots and pans can not only save time but also influence the taste. All materials for pots at a glance.

A properly assembled set of pots can make a significant difference in the home, as choosing the right pot or pan has a significant impact on its performance. For this reason, before buying a pot or pan, you should have thought about what purpose it should serve.

Characteristics of pot bottoms

But not only the material itself plays a role, but the base of the pots and pans also plays a major role. A base that transfers the heat to the food as quickly, evenly, and efficiently as possible is desirable. Copper and aluminum are ideal conductors of heat. Cast iron, on the other hand, conducts heat more slowly, but very evenly. As a rule, thicker bases ensure more even heat distribution. When buying pans, pots, and pot sets, you should make sure that the base is slightly curved inwards when it is cold, as it expands when it is heated and then (especially on an electric stovetop) lies very flat on the stovetop.

Observe safety with pots

In order not to neglect your own safety when cooking, the handles of the pans and pots are very important. The handles must not get hot, so they must be made of materials that conduct heat poorly. Good plastic handles that can withstand the heat of the oven and can be cleaned in the dishwasher are ideal. Even ceramic handles do not heat up, but they break easily. Stainless steel and metal handles are not suitable as they heat up very quickly and can cause severe burns. The handles should be large and practically shaped. In addition, they must not be too tight on the pot so that you can grab them easily without touching the hot pot. If the handles are too high up on the edge of the pot, there is a risk of scalding yourself with hot steam.

What to consider when choosing a pot lid

You save a lot of money and time with the right lid. If the lid does not fit properly, a lot of energy escapes, and the nutrients escape with the steam. At the same time, the permanent escape from heat takes a lot of time. For this reason, the lid should fit snugly and not wobble. Lids that are placed on top need a wide contact surface so that they close well and don’t rattle.

Furthermore, the high dead weight of the lid supports the optimal closure. Stainless steel and glass are particularly suitable as materials, as they dissipate less heat. Glass lids offer the ability to monitor the contents of the pot without lifting the lid. However, they mist up and break more easily when cooking.

Pan lids should curve upwards so that the condensation runs off to the side without dripping onto the fried food.

The right size pots

The sizes of pots and pans you need depend on how much you usually cook. Two pans of different sizes and four pots of different heights and diameters are part of the usual basic equipment. The sizes of the cookware should also match the existing hotplates. Pots and pans that are too small or too large waste energy.

But be careful: the diameter of the upper edge is always specified for cookware. However, the decisive factor is the diameter of the base, which must match the diameter of the hotplate. This is usually about two centimeters smaller. It is best to measure your cooking area and use this measurement when choosing pots and pans.

Tip for cleaning burnt pots and pans

Many use vinegar essence to loosen the burnt fat. While this is very effective, it will damage the coating of the pots over time. Soda and baking soda, mixed with water overnight, are less harmful and just as helpful.

Washing powder for cleaning pots

Mix the washing powder with water and let it boil briefly in the pot. This dissolves the grease residues so well that you can clean the pots without the hassle of scrubbing, but only with a light wipe. An additional positive side effect is that the pots with the washing powder smell good. Sometimes simply rinsing the pot under running water is enough (it always depends on how much and how deep the fat is burned in).

But initially, the spread of this card was rather leisurely. Only when the millionaire Alfred Bloomingdale entered the business. But it was Bank of America that made the credit card accessible to the general public. As a result, it is a popular and frequently used means of payment these days.

Properties of different bed types in comparison. Because beds are the central element in the bedroom, you should take a close look. There are different types of beds, all of which have different properties.

With a bed comparison, you can find out which bed is suitable for which type. A bed test provides interesting results for both single and double beds.

Different bed types in the test

There are a number of criteria that can be used to compare beds. However, the market offers such an immense selection that only the most important ones can be used for consideration. Designer beds, box spring beds, canopy beds, futon beds, themed beds for children, loft beds, bunk beds, and many other representatives of this type can be found in furniture stores and online retailers.

The main distinguishing features of the beds are:

  • Number of people for whom it is made
  • Height of bed/distance from the floor
  • material of the frame
  • design

Double bed vs. single bed

Double beds are wider than single beds and are usually made for two people. They offer comfortable space and can also be used by one person. Single beds, on the other hand, are only intended for one person and are usually 90 cm wide. They are space-saving and fit perfectly in children’s rooms, shared rooms, and smaller bedrooms in general. The challenge with the larger double beds is finding the right mattress. Because you can either opt for a large mattress or buy two single ones that you push together. But then you usually need a topper or other gap filler so that there is no hollow in the middle.

Box spring bed vs. futon bed

If you would like to have a bed with a large distance to the floor, box spring beds are the right choice. Due to the components and the resulting high edge of the bed, the distance to the floor is extremely large, which makes it easy to get in and out. A box spring bed can also be helpful for anyone who has problems with joints or the like. Of course, it’s also a question of design and it’s just nice to have American hotel room comfort in your own four walls.

Those who prefer to sleep flat and close to the floor should put on Japanese futon beds. This type of bed is built very deep and close to the floor so that nobody has to worry about falling out of bed after tossing and turning at night. This too has its advantages. In addition, futon beds also look elegant and stylish in their own way.

Beds comparison of the material

Not unimportant is the material from which the bed frame is made. Among other things, it determines the look, quality, and longevity. There are various raw materials for the production of beds. The best-known types of beds are metal beds, solid wood beds, and upholstered beds. The latter often use imitation leather, real leather, and fabric covers, which ensure pleasant padding of the surface.

Solid wood beds, on the other hand, are made without upholstery and are made of real wood. The use of spruce, beech, or oak wood is popular. A wooden bed adds rustic charm to the bedroom and goes well with most furniture. Metal beds are often provided with an ornate frame, but there are also relatively simple designs. They look less bulky than wooden beds and in most cases look modern and elegant.

Different designs in the bed test

When comparing designs, it is about the color and shape of the bed types, because beds differ in appearance at first glance. The fact that this can be very different is due to the abundance of the offer. Four-poster beds, for example, are rarely bought, but they are a real eye-catcher in the bedroom and promise heavenly nights.

More and more people appreciate the comfortable design of a box spring bed, while others sleep best in classic solid wood beds. Bunk beds and themed beds are very popular with children. There are beds in the form of cars, castles, and similar child-friendly themes to buy. But design is also a question of money.

Coffee is and will remain the favorite drink of Germans. But coffee is not just coffee. The type of coffee machine and the respective coffee preparation play an important role. Get to know different coffee machines and conjure up delicious coffee.

Which coffee machine is the right one?

If you want to buy a new coffee machine, you should first find out about the different ways of preparing it. To ensure that you make the right choice of the coffee machine and that future coffee satisfies you, note the most important criteria. Because cleaning the coffee machine, handling and appearance can make your decision much easier. First, we will give you an overview of the 6 most common types of coffee preparation.

  1. Classic filter coffee machine
  2. Coffee maker (French Press)
  3. capsule and pad machines
  4. fully automatic coffee machines
  5. espresso machine

1) Classic filter coffee machine for making coffee

When it comes to serving larger groups, there is still almost no alternative to a filter coffee machine. Heavy drinkers are also well advised to use such a machine. Almost nothing has changed on the actual principle since the 1970s. However, modern filter coffee machines often offer some additional functions, such as an integrated grinder or a timer function. At the same time, the jug serves as a thermos on many machines. Since you can brew any bean coffee with these machines, brewing with a classic filter machine is very flexible and also cheap. In addition, note other tips for buying household appliances.

  • inexpensive,
  • easy cleaning,
  • Flexible in the choice of coffee,
  • Can be prepared in large quantities.

2) Use a coffee maker with pads

Coffee machines with pods have managed to combine the principle of teabag with delicious coffee enjoyment. There are pads in various flavors, which are simply inserted into the machine and the desired drink is available within a few seconds. Such a machine is ideal, especially in the office or for a quick coffee in between. There are numerous different pad manufacturers and the machines are available for around 50 euros.

3) Prepare coffee with capsules

Capsule machines also only ever prepare one cup. In contrast to pad machines, not all capsules can always be used in the respective machine, because each manufacturer has its own capsule system. Due to the packaging in the aluminum capsule, the coffee should retain more of its aroma and taste more full-bodied than the coffee from pad machines. Capsule machines are usually slightly or even significantly more expensive (to maintain) than coffee machines with pads. The question of whether it should be a capsule or pad machine is sometimes highly controversial among many consumers, as this reduces sustainability in the household.

  • Fast preparation at the touch of a button
  • comfortable to use,
  • large selection of varieties,
  • sometimes difficult to clean.

4) Buy a fully automatic coffee maker

A fully automatic coffee machine does most of the work for you and actually prepares the coffee almost automatically. The integrated coffee grinder transports the freshly ground coffee into the brewing unit and perfect milk froth is added at the touch of a button. This means that the coffee tastes particularly fresh and delicious. These fully automatic machines can also clean themselves. As a result, you save yourself the hassle of cleaning, although it makes sense to descale the coffee machine from time to time. The devices are available for 250 euros. The advantages of a fully automatic coffee machine are manifold:

  • very convenient operation,
  • Diversity at the push of a button
  • Delicious and fresh coffee taste
  • Relative expensive.

5) Use an espresso machine (portafilter machine).

An espresso machine with a portafilter is the pinnacle of coffee machines. Because such a machine offers you the opportunity to prepare the coffee exactly as you wish. Most machines have an integrated coffee grinder where you can adjust the degree of grinding. Then put the ground coffee in the sieve. In addition, with good machines, you can set the brewing temperature and pressure individually. However, a portafilter machine is not cheap. But for original Italian espresso, you can’t get past one of these. Consequently, you will find the conclusion about the choice of an espresso machine, as well as comparison winners, price-performance winners, and bestsellers at a glance:

  • degree of grinding, temperature, and pressure adjustable,
  • perfect for individual requirements,
  • very expensive to maintain and purchase.

Vacuum robots in the test and comparison for housewives. Automatic vacuuming has many advantages. Vacuum cleaner robots in the household save you the hassle of vacuuming. A robot for automatic vacuuming will help you.

What is a vacuum robot?

Small round devices remove dust and dirt from the floor. Sounds like science fiction? But it is a reality because vacuum cleaner robots have been available for many years. The vacuum robots are battery-powered vacuum cleaners that drive around autonomously. They are now among the best helpers in everyday life. But do they compare to the best vacuum cleaners?

How do vacuum cleaning robots work?

Older models solved the navigation challenges by having the robot drive around at random. In this case, advantageously, hardly any computing power was required. However, the robot did not reach some places in the apartment and sometimes took a very long time to clean. In particular, angled and complex apartments were a great challenge for such robots. In addition, older models often navigated through the apartment using the drive-on principle. This means that the direction was only changed after the robot encountered an obstacle.

Therefore, modern models have a so-called indoor GPS. This allows them to map the premises and work more efficiently. Because they get to know the apartment while it is being cleaned. The more often they vacuum an apartment, the more efficient they become. They also now have sensors that they use to identify furniture, clothing lying on the floor, and other things on the floor. Modern vacuum cleaning robots often have sensors on the underside with which they can recognize whether they are driving over stairs or landings. This saves them from premature robot death.

It goes without saying nowadays that the robot can return to the charging station autonomously. This usually happens because the station emits an infrared beam that the robot can use to navigate. If the battery is running low, it fills up there. Then he continues his work as soon as he has enough power again.

The advantages of the vacuum cleaner robot

Vacuum cleaner robots are now available from all sorts of companies. Because vacuum cleaning robots make everyday work in the household easier. At the touch of a button, the household helpers work their way through the entire apartment in the absence of the owner and clean the floors fully automatically. Depending on the program selected, cleaning is dry or damp. The intelligent robot adapts to a wide variety of surfaces and has no problems with carpets or tiles. In the vacuum robot comparison, the following models perform well, so you can save money when buying them online:

1) ProfiCare vacuum robot (for beginners)

The vacuum robot ProfiCare PC-BSR 3042 floor vacuum robot is an entry-level device in the lower price range. The performance is sufficient and the reviews are good. It is therefore exactly the right thing for people who want to try out such a device first.

2) Medion vacuum robot (cheap)

The robot from Medion is rated very well by users and is in the lower price segment. It has a capacity of 300 ml and a battery life of 120 minutes.

3) Eufy RoboVac 11S (Best Seller)

The Eufy RoboVac 11S robot vacuum has high suction power and is a good value for money. It also convinces with its fall sensors and a three-filter system. This makes it particularly suitable for animal hair and allergy sufferers.

4) iRobot Robot Vacuum (Premium)

iRobot is the inventor of the vacuum cleaner robot from the USA. the iRobot Roomba 650 is one of the best automatic vacuum cleaners around.

Buy important criteria when buying a vacuum robot

So that you can choose the best robot for vacuuming, you should keep important criteria in mind when comparing and buying robot vacuums. So you make the right choice for yourself and have less stress in everyday life. For this purpose, also use the vacuum robot test results on the Internet and pay attention to the following criteria:

a) Automatic vacuum cleaner navigation

Depending on the manufacturer, the vacuum robots use different skills to orientate themselves in space. Inexpensive models work with a touch-sensitive shield. As soon as the little helper encounters an obstacle, it changes direction. Advanced devices, on the other hand, work with integrated cameras or ultrasound. In this case, the robots wear down the space either randomly or lane by lane.

b) The suction effect and suction power

The biggest difference between a human-powered vacuum cleaner is endurance rather than suction power. As a rule, the robots have up to 100 watts available for automatic vacuuming. The mobile vacuum cleaner needs several attempts to thoroughly remove the dust. Depending on the room, the robots work efficiently, but there are still problems with obstacles such as table and chair legs and stubborn dirt in the form of cat hair.

c) The charging station

Modern vacuum robots can independently find their way back to the “filling station”. Then they have to charge for up to three hours. But the charging times should play a less important role in the purchase. After all, you have enough time to charge the little helper when you’re not at home. On the other hand, if you want it to do its job quickly, you have to pay extra.

d) The dust container

The biggest argument when buying a vacuum cleaner robot is the dust container. This is difficult to access on many models. Other devices transfer the collected dust to the charging station. The advantage of this function is that the robot can then w

Caffeine has a stimulating, stimulating effect and is an alkaloid that appears as a white, crystalline, odorless powder with a bitter taste. Worldwide, caffeine is the most consumed substance with active pharmacological effects. Caffeine not only occurs in coffee but also in other luxury foods such as tea, mate, cola, guaraná, cocoa, colanesses and energy drinks. Even in various painkillers, caffeine is often contained, which can be read on the package insert.

The stimulating effect, if it is available in the appropriate quantity, works very quickly. However, if the caffeine content of the drink or other product is minimal, then no effect can be felt at all. But not only the caffeine content plays a major role in the mode of action, but also the type of food and its composition.

The caffeine content in comparison

25 ml espresso (often served in a 40 to 50 ml espresso cup) contain between 25 to 30 mg of caffeine
Since cappuccino and latte macchiato each contain an espresso, the caffeine content corresponds to that of an espresso.
Good to know: In Italy and other countries you get a double espresso when ordering a Caffè latte, which is poured in with plenty of hot milk.
25 ml in the filter infusion process of brewed bean coffee contains between 15 and 25 mg of caffeine. With a usual coffee cup with 125 ml filling quantity, this results in a amount of caffeine of 75 – 120 mg
While a decaffeinated coffee in a 125 ml cup has a small residual amount of caffeine that is between 1 and 4 mg.

The pros and cons of caffeine in various types of coffee

Usually the caffeine content depends on the variety of the coffee contained in the drink, as well as on its quantity and the type of preparation. If you tolerate caffeine well and appreciate your vicarious effect, you should use an espresso, filter coffee or a soluble, freezer -dried coffee. If you cannot tolerate caffeine in return, it is best to do without all caffeinated drinks and choose a decaffeinated coffee.

Coffee and smoothie have little in common. While the smoothie is considered the epitome of health, coffee is often known as an unhealthy luxury food.

Coffee vs. smoothie – an unequal duel?

Smoothie versus coffee – what an unfair comparison. But what is actually healthier here? At first glance, the answer is actually clear. But the American medical journalist and TV presenter Michael Mosley is not so sure. With his study, he shakes conventional opinions. Maybe a smoothie is not so healthy and coffee is the healthier alternative?

The results of the “Coffee vs. Smoothie” study

The study tested coffee drinkers and non-coffee drinkers. In fact, coffee drinkers were more likely to develop heart disease and cancer. However, this has not been proven to be due to coffee consumption. It is believed that coffee drinkers are more likely to engage in bad habits, such as smoking or drinking alcohol. It is therefore very difficult to say what really caused the damage. With the help of a “prospective cohort study” further information should come to light.

For this purpose, a group of disease-free individuals was examined and data collected about them. These were followed over a period of time to see how coffee would affect their health. Scientists have tracked the coffee drinking habits of 130,000 men and women for over 20 years. The amazing result: If you stick to the daily dose of two to five cups, coffee is not harmful to your health. There are over 100 different substances in coffee. Among other things, coffee has an antioxidant effect. Can the smoothie keep up?

The smoothie – worse than its reputation?

Traditional smoothies are mostly made from 100% fruit. However, by peeling the fruit, you lose a lot of healthy nutrients. Actually, often only a sugary drink remains. In fact, in 2013, researchers found that 41 out of 52 smoothies sold at grocery stores contained more sugar than Coca-Cola. In addition, all drinks were real calorie bombs. No wonder this has health effects.

People who eat a lot of fruit are more likely to develop diabetes. Interestingly, people who eat whole fruit have a 2% reduced risk of developing diabetes. With fruit juices, on the other hand, the risk is increased by 8%. Another study found that eating certain fruits and vegetables raw reduced the risk of colon cancer, while eating them in smoothies increased the risk. Sugary drinks lead to increased insulin levels with a greater risk of some cancers. The researchers point out that many healthy components are diminished or lost in the juicing process. However, none of the studies listed specifically looked at the health benefits of fruit smoothies.

Coffee and smoothie – the right dose makes the difference

Studies have now shown that the consumption of coffee has a positive effect on the mood. Coffee makes people more alert and lifts their spirits. But can’t a delicious smoothie do the same? As with all other foods, in the end people benefit most from a balanced consumption – whether it’s a smoothie or a coffee.
