It is important to drink enough when exercising or exercising in the fresh air. The selection of drinking bottles ranges from plastic to aluminum to glass bottles. But which is the most environmentally friendly and healthiest alternative?

Disposable plastic beverage bottles are a major contributor to the flood of plastic waste around the world. Buying a reusable bottle that you can refill over and over again is a good step towards environmental protection.

There is now a huge selection of reusable drinking bottles made of a wide variety of materials. It is best to take a moment to find out about the advantages and disadvantages of the different variants and to find the most sensible, healthiest and most practical solution for you. Because a reusable bottle that only stands in the cupboard because, for example, after filling with orange juice, all subsequent drinks also taste like it, was not a good buy.

Plastic or aluminum drinking bottles

Many manufacturers rely on plastics for reusable bottles because they are light, comparatively solid and easy to clean. At the same time, plastics are cheap to manufacture. But it can contain plasticizers and other harmful substances that are released into the filled liquids over the course of use. In addition, they ultimately create plastic waste again.

In addition to plastic bottles, there are drinking bottles made of aluminum or stainless steel. They usually look high quality, but are controversial. Acidic drinks can attack the material and, if the coating is damaged, leach harmful substances out of the aluminum. In addition, unsightly dents can appear on the drinking bottles if they fall.

Hygienic and sustainable: glass drinking bottles

Glass drinking bottles, on the other hand, are particularly environmentally friendly and sustainable. Glass drinking bottles are non-toxic, 100% recyclable and tasteless. They can also be cleaned hygienically and used in a variety of ways. Since glass bottles do not absorb foreign tastes, you can fill in any drink after cleaning without the taste of the previous drink remaining.

An increase in blood pressure with occasional coffee consumption is already known. But what about regular coffee drinkers?

How many cups of coffee per day are allowed?

Coffee is known to have many different effects on the body. Consuming coffee regularly in moderation can also have a positive impact on your health. But what about blood pressure? It is known that coffee can significantly increase blood pressure. However, this state of affairs does not last long. But if you regularly have a cup of coffee, you have to reckon with other consequences in terms of blood pressure.

Effects of coffee on blood pressure

If you drink a cup of coffee or black or green tea, you will get an increase in blood pressure for a short period of time – about 20 to 30 minutes. This high blood pressure is triggered by the caffeine or theobromine contained in the beverages in large quantities. The increased blood pressure caused by the consumption of caffeinated coffee increases individually, but on average it is around 10 to 20 mmHg. However, since the blood pressure drops back to its standard value quite quickly, this increase is not of concern. But those who consume coffee more than just occasionally have other effects on blood pressure. In a study, researchers from Switzerland found out that high coffee consumption permanently lowers blood pressure. Higher coffee consumption thus has the opposite effect on blood pressure than coffee consumption over longer periods of time. This effect can be compared to jogging. Because here, too, blood pressure rises sharply during running. With regular exercise, it has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system in the long term. Constant coffee consumption can also reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke. A team led by Murielle Bochud from the University Hospital in Lausanne wrote in a specialist journal that a cup of coffee a day can lower blood pressure by up to nine millimeters of mercury.
In the analysis, more than 16,000 people were compared with the amount of coffee consumed in terms of their blood pressure and genetic make-up. The researchers found that certain genes largely determine how much caffeinated beverages each individual consumes. These are variations of the gene CYP1A2. Because the gene is relevant for caffeine breakdown in the liver. Depending on how efficient the variation in the gene you’ve inherited is, you’ll consume more or less caffeine accordingly. At the same time, the person who consumes more coffee also tends to have lower blood pressure, on average. The limit is about four to five cups of coffee or tea a day. It is best to spread these out over two or three times. However, anyone who suffers from cardiac arrhythmias should observe whether the consumption of caffeinated beverages may intensify these disorders.

Permanently low blood pressure due to coffee consumption

Thus, in addition to its many other positive properties, coffee also has an effect on blood pressure in different areas of the body. For those who only drink coffee occasionally, coffee only increases blood pressure for a short time. But if you want to permanently achieve a positive change in blood pressure through coffee consumption, you should have a cup of coffee at least once a day. Heart patients should not only observe the connection between coffee and blood pressure, but also pay attention to cardiac arrhythmias.

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in Europe and is particularly appreciated at work. That is why a fully automatic coffee machine is available in many companies. But can an employee take a coffee break at work at any time? What exactly is allowed? We’ll enlighten you!

You will also find a detailed guide on the subject of drinking behavior in this blog article. We will show you how the optimal liquid should be beforehand and what risks can occur if you drink too little. We will then give you our tips and tricks for proper drinking habits.

Drinking coffee during working hours: What are employees allowed and not allowed to do?

A coffee in the office is a must for many. On average, around 25,744 cups of coffee are drunk every minute at work throughout Germany, as it has a positive effect on concentration. And of course we like it too.

A short coffee break in between refreshes tired employees and helps them get through a sometimes strenuous working day. Many employees also see a coffee machine in the office as appreciation of their work and are therefore happy to help themselves to the delicious hot drink. But can employees take a longer coffee break at any time?

Coffee regulations in the workplace

According to the Working Hours Act, everyone is entitled to a half-hour break if they work six to nine hours a day. Everything is allowed during this break: Surfing the web privately, chatting with colleagues and sitting comfortably in the office kitchen with a coffee. This is purely a rest period, which should also be used as such. And during the break time you can of course drink as much coffee as you like. However, you should be careful if drinking coffee extends to the time outside of the break, namely during working hours. Of course, there is nothing wrong with getting up briefly during work and taking a coffee to your desk. However, if you stay longer in the coffee kitchen and maybe start a private conversation with a colleague, things look different. In the legal sense, this is a break in which no work is performed. So anyone who inserts longer coffee breaks into their actual working hours runs the risk of a warning or even dismissal.

Drinking behavior in offices

After these somewhat dry facts, let’s move on to something more exciting: ideal drinking behavior.

Have you ever thought about your daily coffee drinking habits at work? Do you often use the fully automatic coffee machine in the office? Pay attention to how many glasses of water or cups of coffee you drink? Have you set a personal goal that you try to achieve every day? Read more about the general drinking behavior in German offices here.

General recommendation for your drinking habits

The human brain consists to a very large extent of water. Therefore, regular hydration is very important. The less we drink, the more we suffer from physical stress. But not only our brain, but also our other organs need liquid to be able to work properly.

A liquid intake of approx. 1.5 to 2 liters per day is recommended for ideal drinking behaviour. Depending on the weather and activity, you may need a little more. But be careful: not all liquids are the same. Water and unsweetened fruit and herbal teas are best. But vegetable and fruit juices can also be drunk without any problems. However, fruit juices are best enjoyed as a spritzer, as they contain a lot of sugar. Black tea and coffee are also allowed in the workplace in moderation. However, you should not go to the fully automatic coffee machine in the office more than four times a day. Lemonades and soft drinks as well as alcoholic beverages should not be included in the daily fluid intake.

If we drink enough liquid, our organs function properly. We are doing well and we can work with concentration.

What are the consequences of improper drinking behavior in the office?

Anyone who does not drink enough liquid quickly suffers from sometimes unpleasant symptoms that can only be alleviated by drinking enough liquid. Our body needs fluid to function properly. The following symptoms can occur with incorrect drinking behavior:

Headaches: Headaches are often one of the first symptoms
Lack of concentration: We are easily distracted and forgetful
Tiredness: We have the feeling that we are not really awake
Circulatory problems: we feel dizzy, it starts spinning
Dry skin, lips, tongue and throat: Our skin is constantly hydrated
If there is a deficiency, the skin and lips become dry, brittle and crack. It may take a few days for the skin and lips to recover. Our throat and tongue feel dry, making it difficult to swallow.

So that you can avoid these symptoms, we have put together some tips and tricks for you on all aspects of drinking behavior. Because, although it’s actually quite simple, there are quite a few people who find it difficult to drink enough fluids every day, apart from coffee at work.

Tip 1: It doesn’t always have to be just water!

If you would like to have a little more taste in the glass, you can spice up the mineral water with mint and lemon. But unsweetened teas and juice spritzers are also low-calorie thirst quenchers. Especially in summer there are many fruit teas that also taste wonderfully refreshing when cold.

Tip 2: Writing down provides an overview

Simply calculate beforehand how many glasses make 1.5 liters. From now on, every glass you drink is noted – on a piece of paper, in an Excel file or in your own water diary. So at the end of the day you don’t ask yourself how much you’ve drunk.

Tip 3: Eat fruit

What many do not know: fruit also contributes to the water balance. In summer, of course, melon is an ideal freshness kick for in between. Of course, fruit and vegetables cannot cover all of the fluid requirements, but they do contribute.

Tip 4: Use glasses instead of bottles

In comparison, it is easier and faster to drink a larger quantity from glasses than from bottles. If you only drink from bottles, use a glass and see what you find easier.

Tip 5: Fresh water dispenser in the office

If you have a fresh water dispenser available (usually right next to the coffee machine), you can not only fill up your glass, but also walk a few steps in between. So if you empty your glass more often, you often have a reason to leave your desk for a few minutes and stretch your legs. In addition to the coffee machine for the office, you can also rent water dispensers from us.

Tip 6: Fill up the water carafe

If you already drink from a glass but simply forget to refill it, you should put a full bottle or carafe on the table in the morning. So you know how much you should still be drinking throughout the day in order to achieve healthy drinking habits and to provide your body with enough liquid.

Am I still allowed to drink coffee at work?

Of course you can continue to enjoy your coffee at work. Coffee can also be included in the 1.5 liters of liquid that we should drink every day to cover our liquid requirements. Because coffee from the office coffee machine consists of 98 percent water and – contrary to some claims – does not remove any water from the body. Do you like trick coffee? Then fill up your water glass every time you go to the coffee machine.

To ensure that the coffee from the fully automatic coffee machine tastes perfect, we have put together a few tips:

Hygiene:

You can only be sure of enjoying a fresh cup of coffee if the fully automatic coffee machine in the office is cleaned regularly, as otherwise stubborn residues form.

Output amount:

In addition to the degree of grinding, the output quantity also plays an important role for full-bodied coffee enjoyment. For fully automatic coffee machines for the office, we take care of the perfect setting.

Additions:
