Coffee is not only suitable for drinking, it can also be used to power a car – environmentally friendly and fast. Incredible but true facts.

With coffee fuel to the new speed record

No question: coffee wakes you up and, thanks to the caffeine content, provides a welcome boost of energy, especially in the morning or during the midday slump. In fact, this not only applies to people, but also to our favorite vehicle, the car. The coffee-powered “Bean machine” was developed in England and even made it into the Guinness Book of Records thanks to a speed record of 106 km/h. But how did this crazy idea come about and does coffee fuel for cars really have a future?

The idea behind coffee fuel

Two Brits have already attempted the experiment of powering a car with coffee. Jem Stansfield, presenter and engineer of the BBC show “Bang goes the theory”, bought an old Scirocco and converted it into a “Carpuccino”. The environmental activist and engineer Martin Bacon also worked on his coffee-powered Ford pick-up for several years until it finally drove on coffee. The development actually took several years, but Martin Bacon rewarded himself and his experiments with an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. After all, his “Bean machine” is the fastest car in the world that runs on coffee fuel.

Hot and soothing coffee is something that hardly any of us can do without. No other drink can compare in popularity with a tonic drink.

Original: porcelain coffee filter

The porcelain coffee filter has been one of the must-have items in every home. A somewhat older generation probably still remembers the original Melitta porcelain filter that you saw every day at your grandparents. Here, brewing was still done by hand by hand. There was a kettle of water on the stove. Then it was necessary to pour boiling water over a porcelain filter, which, in turn, stood on a coffee pot. In this way, the aromas of the ground coffee inside the filter have been dissolved and an incomparable aromatic coffee has been created. This brewing method is still used today to test the quality of many coffees.

Ibrik: Traditional Coffee Brewing Tour

Ibrik represents, so to speak, the beginning of all types of coffee making. Those who wanted to make coffee always used a small, inconspicuous coffee pot. About a third of all coffee drinkers still use this method. Especially in the Arab countries, Ibrik has a lot of fans. This is where he comes from. At the same time as coffee beans, the method of preparation came to us in Europe around the 16th century. Whether in China, in the south of Russia, in Turkey, Greece or anywhere else – the centuries-old cooking method is known everywhere.

Napoletana: coffee in the process of being turned

The Napoletana is a reversible pitcher that works on a very simple principle. It’s easy to recognize from the outside.
The jug consists of two small pots. They are located directly above each other and fastened with screws. There are handles on the upper and lower ends of the reversible jug – here you can immediately see the possibility of rotation.

State-of-the-art coffee technology: fully automatic machine

The fully automatic machine is an innovative all-rounder among coffee machines. No other device can make coffee in such variety and perfection. Less coffee is brewed here than coffee is “created”.

Espresso machine – coffee in its class

Who does not know them: espresso machine. Hardly any other coffee machine is as famous as a wonderful machine that brews delicious espresso. But unlike a fully automatic machine, you still have to do it yourself. This not only leads to some work, but also helps individual taste. The degree of grind, water, and use largely determine the taste of the coffee in the end. Of course, you should invest in a decent device beforehand. A good espresso machine is the key to first-class results. What you make of it is, of course, entirely up to you.

Lifestyle coffee discs and pods

With the invention of discs and pads, the coffee industry hit the nerves of our time. Small, filled containers contain exactly the amount of coffee needed to make a delicious and aromatic coffee drink. The founders of this movement are Philips and roaster Douwe Egberts. About 10 years ago, a new way of making coffee was invented.

World of coffee: pleasure for everyone

Anyone who wants to make coffee must, of course, choose the right kind of coffee in advance. Depending on the method, it is always worth varying individual varieties and tastes. A lamb pot, for example, is best filled with dark roasted coffee beans. On the other hand, fully automatic machines can handle any type of bean well.

Only 15.6% of the coffee drinkers surveyed between the ages of 18 and 64 enjoy their coffee straight, the rest enjoy mixed varieties.

What alternatives to cow’s milk are there?

Not everyone tolerates cow’s milk. Some are vegan. A change in cappuccino would also be a good idea. Here we present some alternatives to milk.

The well-known Italian milk foam is one of them
Developments that have made a certain contribution to changing the coffee market. However, for many, it poses a problem when it comes to drinking their coffee with milk. Many people suffer from lactose intolerance or a milk allergy and for this reason have to avoid many products with milk. In addition, the vegan diet also dispenses with animal cow’s milk. So if you give up milk, have to give up milk or just want a change, you need an alternative for the latte macchiato or cappuccino.

Such alternatives include a wide variety of grain and nut milks. According to the law, however, these may no longer be referred to as milk in the EU for several years. Rather, these are so-called drinks.

Here is an overview of the most well-known milk alternatives

soy milk
rice milk
Almond milk
Rice Almond Milk
oat milk
spelled milk
millet milk
hazelnut milk
cashew milk
coconut milk

The best coffee milk alternative

If you don’t want to do without your coffee with milk despite a milk allergy or vegan diet, there are many choices for your coffee drink in organic markets, health food stores and in some supermarkets. Which milk you choose depends on your personal preferences. A relatively new trend, especially in the vegan world, is hemp milk.

With the right milk substitute products, not only can a delicious taste be conjured up, but also a nice latte art. As the almond rice milk already demonstrates, a mix of several types of milk can also be used for coffee drinks. Thus, the best of taste can be mixed with a good type of milk for milk froth to get the right consistency and aroma.

Bland food helps you with diarrhea and other gastrointestinal diseases. We give you tips and show you two simple recipes that support your body.

Problems in the gastrointestinal tract can have various causes, such as greasy food or a food intolerance. Viruses are usually the cause of gastrointestinal flu. Symptoms can be very uncomfortable, including diarrhea, nausea, and/or vomiting.

There are different types of diarrhea, but they all have one thing in common: your body loses a lot of fluids in a short period of time. You should therefore make sure that you drink plenty of non-carbonated water in sips throughout the day. Unsweetened chamomile tea, peppermint tea, or fennel tea can also soothe your digestive tract.

If severe diarrhea lasts longer than three days or is bloody, you should definitely seek medical advice.

Light diet for diarrhea: You should avoid these foods

Don’t eat raw vegetables. Boiled or steamed vegetables are better tolerated.
Avoid hot spices like pepper, chili, or garlic. Instead, use fresh herbs like fennel, caraway, or anise.
Avoid fat. If you only have mild diarrhea, feel free to sauté your food in a small amount of oil, but avoid fried and breaded foods. Skip the oil if you have severe diarrhea.
Avoid legumes. Although they are generally very healthy, they are difficult to digest due to their complex protein structure and are therefore not advisable if you have diarrhea. The same goes for nuts.
Avoid foods that cause gas, such as cabbage, onions, or sauerkraut.
Avoid sugar. Any sweets or sugar in tea should be off-limits during your diarrhea bland diet – the sugar overwhelms your already weakened intestinal mucosa. That’s why coke, for example, doesn’t help with diarrhea.
It is not for nothing that they say: well chewed is half digested. If you prepare your food as a puree or soup, you can support your digestion.

In general, the following applies to diarrhea:

Eat little, drink a lot!
Eat small portions throughout the day.

Light diet for diarrhea: These foods are good for you

Since your intestines are already irritated, you should take a closer look when choosing foods. It is important that the food continues to provide you with vitamins and all the important nutrients while protecting your digestion. Watery, easily digestible vegetables are particularly gentle on your stomach and intestines and help you to rebalance your fluid balance:

carrots
zucchini
pumpkin
Beetroot
Also well tolerated are supplements such as:

potatoes
rice
zwieback
oatmeal
Rice gruel (our recipe: rice gruel for diarrhea)

These foods provide you with nutrients and have a constipating effect. Treatment with psyllium husks can also be helpful. Mix a tablespoon of psyllium husk in a glass of water and sip it all before your first meal.

When it comes to fruit, it is best to use fruits that contain a lot of pectin, such as:

very finely grated apple
grated bananas
The pectin helps you bind excess liquid and thus has a constipating effect. By grating the fruit finely, your body can absorb the pectin better.

Proven light diet for diarrhea: carrot soup

Carrots bind excess fluid in the intestines and can help relieve diarrhea.

If you cook carrots long enough, so-called oligosaccharides are formed, which are tiny sugar molecules. Since they are similar to the intestinal receptors, the pathogens are bound from the intestine and excreted more quickly.

We will show you a simple but effective recipe by Dr. Moro:

Ingredients:

500 grams of carrots
1 liter of water
1 pinch of salt
optional: turmeric
Wash the carrots and cut them into pieces.
Put them in a suitable pot.
Add the water and bring the contents to a simmer.
If the carrots are easy to mash with a fork, you can puree them.
Season the soup with a pinch of salt. Optionally, you can use some turmeric as it has an anti-inflammatory effect. You should avoid other spices until your intestines are feeling better.
In total, the soup should simmer for around an hour so that the oligosaccharides can be released from the carrots. You can eat the soup several times throughout the day to relieve your symptoms.

Light diet for diarrhea: oatmeal in different variations

Cooked oatmeal is easy to digest, yet high in fiber, carbohydrates, and protein. They give you energy again and can support you in your recovery process.

Here is a simple basic recipe for the wholesome porridge.

Ingredients:

1 cup oatmeal
2 cups of water
1 pinch of salt
Optional: carrots, grated apple or mashed banana
How to prepare oatmeal:

First mix the oatmeal with the water in a suitable saucepan.
Then bring the flakes to a simmer and add the salt.
Keep stirring the porridge over low heat until it reaches the desired consistency.

Depending on your preference, you can make oatmeal sweet or savory. For a savory version, simply add a chopped carrot while cooking. Another variation is oatmeal soup.

If you prefer sweet oatmeal, you can finely grate an apple and stir it into the porridge. Since the peel contains a particularly large amount of pectin, it is best to grate the apple with the peel and let it rest for about ten minutes before using it. This allows the pectin to unfold its stuffing effect particularly well.

Another option is bananas. They also contain the valuable pectin and have a constipating effect. It is best to mash the banana with a fork beforehand and stir it into the simmering porridge.
