Introduction: The Sweet Delight of Pavlova

Pavlova is a popular dessert that has its origins in Australia. It is named after the famous ballerina, Anna Pavlova, who toured Australia and New Zealand in the 1920s. Pavlova is a crispy meringue base that is topped with whipped cream and fresh fruits. It is a light and refreshing dessert that is perfect for summer.

The meringue base is made from egg whites that are whipped until stiff peaks form. The addition of sugar and a little vinegar or lemon juice gives the meringue its crispy exterior. The whipped cream and fresh fruits provide a lovely contrast to the crispy meringue base. This dessert is not only delicious but also visually stunning, making it the perfect centrepiece for any occasion.

Ingredients and Preparation: Crafting a Crispy Meringue Base

The ingredients for a pavlova are simple: egg whites, sugar, vinegar or lemon juice, and cornflour. You can also add vanilla extract for flavour. The key to making a good meringue is to ensure that your bowl and whisk are completely clean and free from any grease or residue. Any impurities in the bowl or whisk can prevent the egg whites from whisking properly.

To make the meringue base, whisk the egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Gradually add the sugar, a tablespoon at a time, whisking well after each addition. Add the vinegar or lemon juice and cornflour and whisk until the mixture is smooth and glossy. Spoon the mixture onto a baking tray lined with baking paper and shape it into a nest shape. Bake in a low oven for about an hour until the meringue is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Toppings and Variations: Whipped Cream and Fresh Fruits

The traditional topping for pavlova is whipped cream and fresh fruits such as strawberries, kiwi fruit, and passionfruit. However, there are many variations on this classic dessert. You can use any fruit that you like, such as mango, pineapple, blueberries, or raspberries. You can also add a drizzle of chocolate sauce or caramel sauce for a decadent touch.

To assemble the pavlova, simply spoon the whipped cream onto the meringue base and then arrange the fresh fruit on top. You can create a beautiful pattern by arranging the fruit in a circular or spiral pattern. Serve immediately, as the meringue will start to soften if left for too long. Pavlova is a delicious and versatile dessert that is perfect for any occasion.

Tulips should never be given fresh water during water changes. Why does this damage the cut flowers?

A colorful bouquet of tulips can make your heart happy and bring the fresh scent of spring into your home. Quickly fetch a vase from the cupboard, fill it at the tap and then drape it nicely on the windowsill: You can already feel the spring mood in the apartment.

After a certain time, however, there is less and less water in the vase because the tulips have drawn it. Should I drain the water and fill in new? This would be a mistake that would make the beautiful flowers look ugly sooner.

That way you can keep your tulips for longer

If you have the impulse to give your tulips new water, caution is advised: the water already in the vase should never be poured out, instead you should only refill the vase with fresh water. Because: Fresh water gives the cut flowers new energy, it allows them to grow or bloom much faster. But that also means that they age and wither faster. With the mixture of older and fresh water, the tulips will continue to grow, but more slowly.

However, it is important to refill in good time so that the nutrient content in the water does not become too high. So check regularly how much water your tulips have left. These cut flowers in particular draw water quickly, which is why repeated watering may be necessary.

So no fresh water for tulips! If you heed this tip, you can enjoy colorful flowers for longer.

While carpets often look spotlessly clean and beautiful immediately after purchase or installation, this can change after a short time. Light-colored carpets in particular turn gray over time and develop stains. It can also happen that they no longer smell fresh. To prevent this from happening in the first place, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Treat stains immediately if possible

Stains in carpets and carpets cannot always be avoided. Especially those who have children will be confronted with it more often than they might like. In such a case, however, the carpet usually does not have to be disposed of. Most stains can usually be removed if treatment is started as soon as possible. The longer the stain can set in, the more likely it is that the liquid has penetrated so deeply into the fibers that it can no longer be completely removed.

A professional cleaning for carpet floors

If powder or wet cleaning no longer works, we recommend professional carpet cleaning and carpet cleaning. For this purpose, cleaning experts effectively clean the soiled carpets on site. Pressure points should be relieved regularly

Even if a rug or carpet does not have any acute stains, regular cleaning every three years is recommended. Because over time, dust, dirt particles and dirt are deposited in the fibers. These strain the carpet. Therefore, regular cleaning helps to let carpets shine in new splendor. In addition, it extends the service life. It is also advisable to eliminate pressure points in the carpets of furniture such as tables or cupboards from time to time.

So give your carpet a rest and relieve it. The heavier a piece of furniture, the deeper the pressure points. While short-pile carpets should be cleaned with an upright vacuum, high-pile carpets should only be cleaned with a smooth carpet nozzle. Special agents that were specially developed for carpets ensure that they do not become electrostatically charged, especially in the cold winter months in connection with dry heating air. Also, note the most common vacuum cleaner errors.

There are still two weeks until the festival, but are the first brown needles already falling from the Advent wreath? You can prevent this with simple means.

Every year you wonder how your advent wreath stays fresh and safe longer? We have tips and tricks for you for a fresh Advent wreath for Christmas.

Why an Advent wreath?

The Advent wreath not only looks beautiful, but it also shortens the waiting time for Christmas. So many people have it at home. But very few know the history of the Advent wreath. This was introduced in 1839 by evangelical theologians to shorten the waiting time for street children in times of industrialization for Christmas. The original symbolism lies in the increase of light. Since this symbolizes the increasing expectation of the birth of Jesus. Even today, the Advent wreath shortens the waiting time until Christmas. But how does it survive the weeks leading up to the festival?

1) Tie the wreath yourself

Tying Christmas wreaths yourself is fun and extends the shelf life. Use high-quality fir branches for this. Nobili fir branches are ideal because they do not needle. However, they don’t smell that nice either. But they are more durable. If you’re making your own wreath, you’ll want to tie it onto a fresh, moistened floral matrix. This will reduce the drying out of the Advent wreath. To avoid water stains on the table, place everything on a large plate or board. You can also cut the branches on the side and put them in a water bath. Then seal with a hot glue gun.

2) Regularly moistening the branches

If you spray the fir trees and the floral foam lightly with water from time to time, the Advent wreath will stay fresh longer. Spraying with water also has the advantage that the risk of fire is not so great. In addition, replace dry branches. If possible, you can give the arrangement a short water bath once a day. The tips for Christmas trees that you should consider are similarly helpful.

3) Avoid heat

If possible, you should avoid dry heating air. Because the branches do not tolerate heat very well. That’s why they dry out even faster when it’s warm. So never place it directly next to a heat source, such as the radiator or the fireplace. You can also prevent drying out by leaving the Advent wreath out on the balcony overnight. So it gets enough moisture. But be careful, you should avoid avoiding humidity in rooms to prevent mold.

4) Hairspray in exceptional cases

A light film of hairspray also protects the needles from drying out too quickly. But the disadvantage here is that the wreath looks a bit artificial. In addition, the pine scent is lost. Alternatively, you can make your own Christmas scents. Also, note that hairspray makes the wreath highly flammable and dangerous. Therefore, the other tips are recommended. Furthermore, use hairspray as a home remedy for removing felt-tip pens.

Important rules for the Advent wreath

In any case, when you buy the fir trees, you should make sure that they are really fresh. And keep them cool until Advent. But you should never take your eyes off the wreath when the candles are burning. In addition, homemade candles must always be firmly attached. So-called candle plates are suitable for this. But please never attach the candles with just wire. Likewise, for extra safety in the household, you should never blow out the candles. This can cause sparks and set the wreath on fire.

It is important to always move the water jet from the bottom of the legs up to the heart. Also, you should always stop with the cold water.
