Why is the saucer of the coffee cup actually called a saucer? How do you get a free coffee at Starbucks every day? And how can you kiss while drinking coffee? How to clarify.

Drinking coffee in the 18th century

There are some bizarre stories about coffee. Whether informative or amusing – of course we don’t want to withhold them from you and keep our ears and eyes open for more exciting coffee stories.

Saucer vs Saucer

In the 18th century, coffee was a luxury and not everyone could enjoy it in fine salons and cafes. During this time, Johann Friedrich Böttger invented porcelain, which made it possible to wear the befitting coffee tableware. Of course, the hot coffee also transferred its heat to the porcelain, so that the coffee cups were provided with handles. In order not to burn oneself on the hot coffee, it was poured onto the saucer to cool down and sipped from there. Another reason is said to have been that the ladies and gentlemen who wore heavy make-up at the time were afraid that the hot coffee would melt the sensitive make-up.

Complimentary Starbucks coffee daily

A particularly savvy customer picks up his free coffee day in, day out in an American Starbucks branch. How does he do it? It’s his birthday every day! The trick is so simple that no one else seems to have come up with this idea before him. He filled out and ordered a whopping 365 customer cards – one for each day. And he entered a different date of birth for each card. Since it is common for customers with a customer card to receive a free birthday coffee on their special day, they now get a free coffee every day. This scam is of course incredibly bold, but it is topped by the fact that the customer wanted to convince an employee that his card was defective and that he would therefore receive a free drink every day. Anyone who now assumes that the customer will order a simple black coffee is wrong. Thanks to the selection of various toppings, syrups and extras, the morning coffee is worth an impressive $6.50. Over a year (365 days) that’s $2,372.5! Something like that is of course only possible in America. In Austria you only get your free drink if you have already paid for something with your customer card. The branches also reserve the right to refuse cards.

kisses for the coffee

Coffee is loved around the world. Many drink it from conventional to-go cups with the typical drinking lid, no matter what the content is. A Korean designer by the name of Jang WooSeok has now created very special lids. “Kiss when Coffee” is the name of her creation, which looks anything but conventional. What remains of the conventional lid is the elliptical drinking hole. The new look is reminiscent of the facial features of the mouth and nose of Greek statues. When kissing, people are happy. Something similar is now projected onto drinking coffee. Because the drinking hole is on the lips of the lid. So it looks like kissing the mug face. A five-fact is that the designer has previously omitted the noses, but noted that the touches of the nose are essential to make the kissing realistic.
