With her family business “ÖselBirch”, the 27-year-old offers numerous new variants in addition to the classic birch water. With the flavors rhubarb, mojito, Aronia berry, sea buckthorn, and mint, there is something for every taste. Will the lions like it too?

Drained of course

The time to collect birch water in spring is short: the sap only runs out of the trunk for about 1-2 weeks before the first leaf buds appear. Birch water can be drunk neat – but it can also be fermented. This is important because it doesn’t stay fresh for more than five days.

Collecting birch sap does not harm the tree because the peg holes in the tree and the amount of sap collected are so small in relation that the tree recovers within a year. Birch sap has been tapped for centuries and has become a Nordic tradition!

Healthy birch water

Birch water – a probiotic drink with live cultures. The fermented juice from the birch trunk is also free of preservatives, vegan, gluten-free, and contains only natural traces of sugar. It is offered in an environmentally-friendly glass bottle.

With its slightly sour taste, birch water is somewhat reminiscent of kefir. Due to its slightly bitter aftertaste, birch water is also ideal for processing in cocktails or mocktails. Healthy dog ​​thanks to vegan dog nutrition?

The inspiration for this unusual business idea was male Nelson: founder Tessa’s dog suffered for years from food intolerance, which manifested itself primarily in the form of gastrointestinal problems and itchy skin. Even after numerous hypoallergenic types of food had been tried without success, the dog owner Tessa, on the advice of a veterinarian, did not feed Nelson animal protein.

At first, the young founder herself was still skeptical: “In the beginning, I thought it was a joke. Feeding a dog vegan – how is that supposed to work? But the desperation was great and so I gave the whole thing a chance.” But the experiment was a success: the food was prepared according to special recipes, and after four weeks the dog was symptom-free and has been on a vegan diet for seven years now.

Vegan dog nutrition – a gap in the market?

However, since cooking for the dog turned out to be very time-consuming, the idea for “VEGDOG” was born. It is the first vegan and grain-free complete feed for dogs that were developed in a one-year development phase in cooperation with specialist veterinarians and specialist laboratories.

The different types of food provide the dog with all the essential nutrients and cover their needs. In addition, only regional, high-quality ingredients are used, which are processed gently and in compliance with the highest quality standards. “VEGDOG” is free from attractants, colorings, and preservatives and does not test on animals.

Sustainable business model to bite into?

Whether made of glass, wood, or edible – the idea of ​​making drinking straws more environmentally friendly in the future and producing straws without plastic is currently on everyone’s lips. Larger corporations such as Starbucks have already decided to use plastic-free alternatives when it comes to straws. The three young founders have also recognized this: In order to make their straw marketable without plastic, they researched and developed it for two years.

Now the three young entrepreneurs want to bring their “Eatapple” to bars, hotels, beaches, and private households. But for this, they need the financial support of 200,000 euros. In return, the trio “Löwen” offers eight percent of their company. “Of course, a deal would catapult us a lot forward,” explains Konstantin Neumann.
