Separate egg yolks from whites. Beat egg yolks with sugar and vanilla sugar.
Melt butter, cool and mix with cognac. Add to beaten yolks.
Sift flour with baking powder and gradually add to the whipped mass.
Whisk the egg whites and gently fold into the batter.
Wash the plums, cut each in half and remove the pit. Leave 6 halves, and cut the rest into cubes and mix with the dough. Cut the remaining plums into thin slices.
Grease muffin tins with butter or line them with paper tins. Fill them with dough for 2/3 of the volume. From above, press a few slices of plums into the dough.
Bake muffins with plums for 30-40 minutes in an oven preheated to 180 degrees. The time depends on your oven and the size of the cupcakes.
Let the cupcakes cool slightly, take them out of the mold and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
