If you leave carrots for too long, they will become soft and take on a rubbery texture. Of course, they are still suitable as an ingredient in cooking – but most people simply prefer crunchy carrots in salads or as a raw food snack.

Luckily, there’s a simple trick you can use to refresh soft carrots. Not only do you enhance their taste, but you also avoid potential food waste.

Tip: When buying carrots, make sure that they are organic if possible. You are supporting ecologically more sustainable agriculture that, for example, does not use chemical-synthetic pesticides. Root vegetables such as carrots absorb these pesticides particularly strongly from the soil. The organic seals from Demeter, Naturland and Bioland are particularly recommended.

Place the carrots in a tall glass.
Fill the jar with cold water so that all the carrots are covered.
Place the jar in the refrigerator or other cool place for at least 8 hours.

Ingredients for 30 crispy chocolate pralines:

  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 40 g muesli flake mixture
  • 100 g spelled flakes
  • 25 g cherries (dried, unsweetened)

Preparation steps:

  1. Fill a pot with water, bring to a boil and then turn the stove to the lowest setting.
  2. Finely chop the dark chocolate and place about two-thirds of it in a bowl. Place the bowl in the saucepan and gently melt the chocolate in a water bath. Stir occasionally.
  3. Once the chocolate is completely melted, remove the bowl from the heat and add the remaining chocolate, stirring slowly until melted.
  4. In a large bowl, carefully combine the granola mixture, spelled flakes, dried cherries, and melted chocolate so everything is coated in chocolate.
  5. Form about 30 chocolate pralines with two teaspoons and place them on baking paper. Then let it dry in a cool environment for about 2-3 hours.

Radishes are among the first vegetables to be harvested throughout the year. The delicious vegetable got its name from Latin. “Radix” appropriately means root. Storing radishes: storage tips

If you store radishes properly, they stay fresh and crunchy longer:
Cut off leaves and roots with a knife. This prevents the stored water from going into the leaves. This leaves more in the radish itself.
Take a can and put the radishes in it. Alternatively, you can wrap the radishes in damp towels.
Store them in the crisper in the fridge. They stay there for up to three days. A cool basement is an alternative.
Of course you can also freeze radishes. But then they lose their taste, at least partially.
If the radishes have softened, place them in a water bath for a few minutes. This makes them a little crunchier again.
