We all love fresh bread and fresh rolls. To keep rolls and bread fresh for longer, all you have to do is follow our tips on how to store them properly. The effect is simple and amazing: You can still eat your rolls, bread or other baked goods almost fresh a few days later.

We show you ways to properly store rolls that are left over from breakfast. For example, you can freeze bread and rolls just like other foods. You can store buns in a cloth bread sack, keep them fresh in an earthenware container, and more.

How long does bread keep?

Bread or rolls must be stored in the dark in order to be able to store them properly. To prevent your bread or rolls from going moldy, place them on the cut edge and preferably in an earthenware container. In addition, your bread will keep longer if it has a high rye content. Wholemeal bread keeps the longest this way. You can also freeze your bread and rolls and bake them later so you can always enjoy fresh baked goods.

  • Wheat bread keeps for up to two days.
  • Mixed wheat bread lasts two to four days.
  • Mixed rye bread lasts up to three days.
  • Rye bread keeps for four to six days.
  • Wholemeal and wholemeal bread lasts seven to nine days.

Use well-ventilated bread bins

You can easily store your baked goods for a short time at room temperature in the bags from the bakery or from the supermarket. Since the air cannot circulate there, however, mold can easily form. Well-ventilated bread containers, which are ideal for storing bread and rolls, are therefore better suited for storage. There are many different bread boxes to choose from. We recommend natural materials, such as ceramic or wooden bread bins, earthenware bread pans or fabric bread sacks.

Freeze bread in advance

If you eat fresh bread every day but don’t want to go to the bakery every day for it, you can simply freeze the freshly bought and sliced bread in portions at -18°C to -20°C. Estimate your daily bread consumption and pack the required number of slices in airtight, reusable freezer bags with zip closures.

As soon as you need new bread, take it out of the freezer and defrost it. The bread tastes best when you warm it up in the oven. Of course, you can also do this with fresh rolls. With this little trick you always have a supply of fresh bread at home. However, frozen buns and bread slices have a shelf life of 2 months and whole loaves of bread 4-6 months.

Types of defrosting bread

If you would like to buy in advance and then defrost your bread or rolls, it is important to pay attention to a few things when defrosting. There are several ways you can defrost your bread. Depending on what suits you and is practical for you, you will soon be able to enjoy fresh bread and fresh rolls at any time. However, to ensure that bread does not become too hard after defrosting or is still half-frozen on your plate, the following should be observed when defrosting.

Defrost bread in air

Not every roll lover bakes their bread or rolls in the oven or with a bread maker every day. If a nice crust is not important to you, you can simply let your bread thaw in the open air. Put it in your bread bin and wait until it is no longer frozen. This option is very suitable for individual slices, because a crispy bread crust is usually not so important. For a loaf of bread or rolls you have to plan a lot of time for air thawing.

Defrost bread overnight

The absolute best option is to take a piece of bread or rolls out of the freezer the night before and let them thaw overnight in a plastic bag or bread bin. In this way, the aroma is preserved and not too much moisture is lost. The next morning you can bake it in the toaster or oven if you like. For example, if you are planning a barbecue party in the evening, you simply take your bread out of the freezer in the morning.

Defrost bread quickly

It’s best to give your bread or rolls plenty of time to thaw, as this will preserve their flavor and won’t dry them out. A minimum is 1-2 hours at room temperature, preferably overnight. Unfortunately, all quick variants come with a loss of moisture, flavor and a nice crust. However, if it has to be, the microwave and toaster are the best choice.

Defrost bread in freezer bag

If it’s a few slices of bread, a flavor-retaining option is to let the bread thaw in the freezer bag. Place the closed bag in your bread bin and wait at least half an hour before processing your bread further. If necessary, lay out the individual discs separately if you are short on time. By the way, if you happen to have some bread left, you can use it to make wonderful breadcrumbs yourself.

Many tips for storing cheese correctly at a glance.

Don’t store tomatoes in the fridge. Because the longer and colder the plant is stored, the higher the probability that it will not taste good. Then place them on the grid and season them to taste. In order for the tomatoes to dry successfully, you can heat them at between 50 – 90 degrees for about 6 – 10 hours, depending on the device. Because they are very mushy. Since they lose their flavor in the cold, our tip is to process them directly into a delicious sauce and then freeze them. Or season them accordingly 10 minutes before freezing. Please also note our tips for freezing beans.

The heirloom from the father or grandfather is not just a special memento. Old pocket watches are highly valued, especially among collectors, because they are reliable and long-lasting companions. But they should be properly maintained and cleaned. We have collected valuable tips on the proper care of pocket watches.

Pocket watches are back in fashion

For a long time, pocket watches were the daily companions of many people. But then they disappeared from everyday life and wristwatches took their place. But the great interest in vintage objects also makes the pocket watch reappear. The castle craftsman Peter Heinlein is said to have invented the pocket watch. He wanted to avoid constantly looking at the tower clock and built the first models. However, these were relatively large and unwieldy. Over time, these have been continuously optimized. Initially only reserved for the rich, later the less well-earned could also use the pocket watch. Pocket watches are now popular collector’s items, which is why they should be properly cared for.

Dangers for old pocket watches

The greatest enemies of a high-quality pocket watch are sweat, dust, moisture, and physical shock. The better you look after an old pocket watch, the more likely it will retain its value. Today, pocket watches from Glashütte Original, Vacheron Constantin, A. Lange und Söhne, IWC, Omega and Patek Philippe are among the showpieces. Heirlooms from family members have an emotional and therefore much higher value for most people. Nevertheless, the small gems end up in the closet. However, they are rarely used. However, you should inspect a watch regularly. This includes proper cleaning, regular winding, and, in the case of valuable branded watches, gear cleaning by a specialist.

Clean old pocket watches

If you have an old pocket watch, you should clean it from time to time. Because then their value is preserved. But how does the right cleaning work? A question that worries many. So that you don’t make any mistakes, we have summarized the most important tips for cleaning:

1) Use dust-free, soft cloths

Cleaning works best with a dust-free cotton cloth. You can also use a microfiber cloth. Thus, the case is not scratched by friction. If you have a waterproof watch, you can use a damp cloth. And you can even hold watches with a water resistance of 10 bar under running water. But under no circumstances should you use the dark side of sponges to clean the watch. Since fine metal particles are usually incorporated here, which can scratch the case, glass, and metal bracelet. The same applies to cleaning glasses.

2) Do without commercially available cleaning agents

Commercial cleaning agents from the household are also unsuitable for the care of old pocket watches, as they also set chemical processes in motion. Instead, it is better to use special cleaning agents. You will find numerous cleaning agents in specialist shops or on the Internet that have been specially made for cleaning watches. With this, you are on the safe side. Also, note home remedies for cleaning jewelry and polishing gold jewelry.

3) Have the movement cleaned by a specialist

Only a watchmaker should clean and lubricate/change the gear. It is important to avoid mechanical abrasion. Even for watches that have been stored, you should have the oil changed by a specialist every three to five years. This means that there is no bearing damage.

Properly store old pocket watches

If you don’t want to carry your old pocket watch, you should choose the right storage. Storing valuables can also pose a risk. For example, if you store the pocket watch in a damp place like the basement. To ensure that the watch lasts a long time, heed the following storage tips:

  • Dustproof and dry. The more dirt gets into the gears, the sooner the old clock stops. In the worst case, it can even break. Therefore, store the watch in a case or a showcase, for example.
  • Uniform temperature. An evenly tempered place is perfect for the collector’s item. Because watches do not like large temperature fluctuations, the oil in the movement suffers and disrupts the accuracy.
  • Avoid direct sunlight. Because this leads to a sharp increase in temperature and discoloration. The dials of a watch in particular are very sensitive to the sun.
  • Low humidity. Similar to the care of antique furniture, humidity plays an important role when storing watches. High humidity will reduce the life of the watch.
  • Move/raise regularly. Old pocket watches should be moved or wound regularly. Thus, the oil is distributed in the movement. Automatic watches move every two to three months. Hand-wound pocket watches should be wound up at regular intervals until you feel resistance. Watches with a mechanical movement should be checked every five years by a specialist for wearing parts.

Now store food properly and make it durable. Keep edible food fresh for longer with simple storage tips. Storing food is a small art in itself, especially in the summertime.

Good fruit, fresh asparagus, or herbs spoil quickly. Dairy products, sausage, and meat can also pose health risks if stored and consumed incorrectly. Because heat and other factors quickly turn fresh food into spoiled goods.

Proper food storage

We like to enjoy food fresh. But who goes shopping every day? If you make a bulk purchase, you should store the groceries properly afterward so that the groceries stay fresher for longer. Because if stored incorrectly, food can quickly go bad. You also want to avoid throwing away food. Incorrect storage can also attract small intruders. So we have tips on how to store your groceries. Also, note tips for fighting food moths.

1) Preserve meat and sausages

Perishable goods should be stored particularly well and safely. The best way to do this is to pack it with a vacuum sealer and then store it in the freezer. For this, also read our instructions and tips for freezing meat. This will prevent frost burn caused by improper storage. And the inclusion of bacteria in the freezer bags is also avoided. Ultimately, even the so-called zip bags do not protect against the inclusion of too much oxygen and bacteria. It is best to store meat in the refrigerator at 0 – 4 degrees above the vegetable compartment this way you can preserve the food.

2) Fish is best fresh

When it comes to fish, it has to be said very clearly: it should ideally be eaten on the day of purchase. Storing fish is also possible, but should be considered. If you buy fresh plaice, trout, and the like, you can put them straight into the freezer. It is best to vacuum pack and place it in the freezer separately from the meat. This process should be as quick as possible from purchase to freezing. If a certain amount of care is not taken with the fish, there is a risk of pathogens such as salmonella or food poisoning. Also, note our article on recognizing fresh fish and preserving it.

3) Herbs belong in a glass or flower pot

Keeping herbs as food fresh longer is not that easy. This works best if you dry the herbs. Again, you need to store these foods properly. If you grow herbs such as sage, rosemary, oregano, basil, chervil, chives, and wild garlic yourself, you should place them well. Cut herbs should stand in a glass with fresh water. However, the glass must be able to stand in daylight. If not, the water threatens to tip quickly and the herbs are gone. Herbs can also be frozen. You can also wrap cut herbs in aluminum foil and put them in the fridge. As a result, you can effectively preserve these foods.

4) Fruit stays fresh for so long

Unfortunately, there is no uniform regulation for the correct storage of fruit. But many types of fruit should be stored in a cool place to stay fresh for longer. This is especially true on warm days. And storing different types of fruit together can also ensure that they ripen faster. Therefore, we give you an overview of the correct storage of the most popular types of fruit. In addition, you will find out in another article how you can drive away fruit flies. These foods are also suitable for drying.

5) Vegetables are usually stored in cool

Most vegetables should be stored in a cool or dark place. This allows you to keep these foods fresh for longer. But not all tolerate long storage in the refrigerator well, as they are sensitive to cold. Likewise, some types of vegetables can be deprived of their aroma by severe cold. If you want to be on the safe side, you can also store your vegetables in the cellar or on the balcony, provided of course that you always keep an eye on the temperature. Thus, these foods can be preserved well. Find out how you can get the vitamins when preparing vegetables. The preparation with the steam cooker often helps.

6) Cleverly store cookies

Cookies can also dry out quickly. To keep your cookies fresh longer, store them in a tin or plastic container. These should be lockable and airtight. Depending on the type, you can store and enjoy your biscuits at room temperature for two to four weeks.

7) Properly store bread in clay

Bread and rolls from the bakery can be stored very well in a clay or earthenware container. Room temperature is also advisable for proper storage. A bread container made of earthenware can effectively transport moisture to the outside. As a result, the bread does not mold as quickly and retains its fresh taste. For more tips, read our post on storing bread properly.

Storing food properly is almost an art – and the refrigerator is not always the best solution. Not everything stays fresh longer in it. Many foods are harmed by the cold, some simply do not need it cool.

1. Storage of tomatoes, as well as cucumbers, peppers, eggplants and zucchini

Tomatoes should not be stored in the refrigerator. There they lose their aroma and can mold more quickly due to storage. It is best to keep them in the cellar or in the pantry – a temperature of around 15 degrees is ideal.

If a cool room is not available, tomatoes are still better off at room temperature than in the refrigerator. It is best to store them in an airy and shady place. This also applies to other types of vegetables that contain a lot of water, such as cucumbers, peppers, eggplant and zucchini.

2. Store olive oil properly

Olive oil can become flaky (cloudy) in the refrigerator. In warm weather, however, this returns after a while without the oil being damaged. That’s why you often hear the advice to put olive oil in the fridge so that it doesn’t go rancid so quickly. But cooling and heating food over and over again consumes valuable energy.

Store olive oil at room temperature protected from light (e.g. in a dark cupboard) and it will keep the olive oil fresh for many weeks – by then a bottle will usually be gone anyway.

3. Store bread

Bread is best stored at room temperature in air-permeable containers. Without air, moisture builds up and the bread starts to go moldy. Clay pots are ideal for storage. Bread boxes made of wood are less recommended, bread dries out faster in them.

Stored in the fridge, bread will mold later, but will soon taste stale. That’s why storing it in the refrigerator is only worthwhile in exceptional cases: on hot days with high humidity. We recommend plastic-free lunch boxes to take to the office.

4. Store lemons

Lemons and other citrus fruits don’t tolerate cold – after all, they come from warm regions. Lemons, oranges, grapefruits, etc. do well at moderate room temperatures, they prefer it even more if they are stored a little cooler. Citrus fruits should be stored openly, they should have contact with air. A bowl or a basket that is as wide as possible is suitable for this, for example.

Sliced citrus fruits don’t need to be in the fridge either. They keep for a week at room temperature. Lemon halves are best placed cut-side up on a plate. The cut surface dries and thus protects against mold growth.

5. Storage of garlic and onions

If you don’t have a cool room available, it is best to store garlic and onions in a clay pot that gives them enough room to “breathe”.

6. Store bananas

Bananas quickly get brown spots in the fridge because the cold damages their cell tissue. They will keep for about three to four days at room temperature if protected from direct sunlight. They are even better off in a slightly cooler place.

This also applies to other exotic fruits such as mango, melon or pineapple.

7. High-proof

Perhaps the term “food” is not appropriate for strongly alcoholic beverages. But if you have spirits such as vodka, whiskey or other brandy wines with more than 35% at home, you don’t need to store them in the fridge either. Sealed bottles of alcohol last practically forever.

Even when the bottles are open, it takes time for the alcohol and aroma to evaporate. Storage in the basement or at room temperature without direct sunlight (e.g. in a cupboard) is sufficient.

8. Store the avocado optimally

Like a banana, you usually buy an avocado unripe. “Hard” avocados should be stored at room temperature, during which time they will ripen and become soft. Ripe specimens are best eaten as soon as possible.

However, cut avocados can go in the fridge: do not remove the pit, sprinkle lemon juice on the cut surface and place in an airtight container – this way the avocado will keep for a few more days.

9. Tabasco and Co.

In addition to chilies, hot sauces usually only contain vinegar and salt – these are excellent preservatives. That’s why Tabasco & Co. don’t have to be in the fridge even when they’re open. In a light-protected place (closet) they keep for many months.

10. Storage of honey

Honey changes consistency in the fridge. It becomes hard and difficult to paint. When stored tightly closed, dry and protected from light (e.g. in a cupboard), it usually lasts for years without losing quality.

Also, if you keep honey free of foreign bodies, you can eat it practically forever.

A good kiss can be important if you want to impress your counterpart. But how do you kiss properly? You can find out whether you can improve your kissing technique with the following tips on how to kiss properly. So nothing stands in the way of your next kissing experience.

The best tips for kissing properly

A good kisser is seldom born. Again, practice can make perfect. Also, everyone kisses differently. In order for the kiss to be good, you have to adapt to your counterpart. But with a few tricks, you can kiss even better than before. Therefore, take the following tips to heart to learn how to kiss properly:

1) Interpret body language correctly

First of all, you should correctly interpret the body language of your counterpart. Is he or she ready for a kiss? Or does the body language indicate defensiveness and discomfort? This is important to know if you want to take the first step. In a partnership, too, it is an advantage for a long relationship to know when your partner would like a kiss or can really use it. If the other person is facing you and looking for physical contact, that’s a good sign.

2) Approach slowly and kiss well

If you now notice that your counterpart is open to a kiss, you can slowly approach it. Of course, things can get stormy in some situations, but you’re on the safe side if things go slowly. It can also increase your desire and lust. Also, read exciting facts about sex from research.

3) Control breathing and kiss properly

When you’re learning how to kiss properly, you should think about your breathing. It is best if you breathe gently and controlled. Because nobody likes it when their breath is blown wildly down their throats. However, you can also use your breath specifically to signal your desire. Then it is very important that you have fresh breath. Home remedies for bad breath can help you not to scare off your counterpart.

4) Not too much saliva!

According to surveys, women do not like it at all when too much saliva is used when kissing. Overall, 67% of women reject a kiss that is too wet. Accordingly, very wet kisses are a no-go. Although men get along better with a wet kiss, you shouldn’t forget to swallow when kissing.

5) A good kiss without tongue acrobatics

Another common mistake is using the tongue correctly. If you dig too much with your tongue or let it go too far into the other person’s mouth, it can be very uncomfortable. Therefore, be careful not to do any tongue acrobatics. Instead, explore slowly with your tongue what your counterpart likes. In addition, note valuable tips for the first date and be ready to kiss properly.

6) Short breaks are allowed

A long kiss can strengthen the relationship, but short breaks are also allowed. You can use these breaks to seductively look your partner in the eye. This can also increase your self-confidence and you can go further with kissing properly. So give your lips a break in between.

7) Close your eyes and learn to kiss properly

As a rule, the eyes are closed when kissing. Because nobody likes to be stared at. But that doesn’t mean you have to keep your eyes closed all the time. On the contrary, the exchange of looks can create trust and increase desire. So you should try to find a balance.

8) Better kissing through a variety

If you’re going to be making out for a long time, then some variety can be beneficial. So you can alternate between french kissing and normal kissing. Other body regions can also be touched and explored with the mouth. Or bite gently on the other person’s lip.

9) Pay attention to sufficient oral hygiene

Another no-go when kissing is a lack of oral hygiene. You should avoid bad breath and have taken care of adequate dental care beforehand. Because then nothing stands in the way of the kissing experience and both have fun.

10) Proper kissing without force

An important point is that both kissing partners have fun and nobody feels forced to do so. Consequently, it is very important to keep an eye on the body language of your counterpart. If you sense that the other person is uncomfortable, ask. And if you don’t want to anymore yourself, tell the other person. This is the only way to make the kissing experience something beautiful. In addition, consider romantic gift ideas for your loved ones.

Bathing and washing dogs are rarely necessary. But if you want to clean your dog, you should follow a few important rules. Shampoo selection is an important topic. That’s why we have recipes for making dog shampoo yourself.

How often do you have to bathe and wash dogs?

Dogs have sebaceous glands all over their bodies, which supply the coat with a self-cleaning protective layer of fat. Since this is lost when you bathe your dog, it is more of a disadvantage for the dog’s skin if you bathe it too often. You can also brush normal dirt out of the fur quite well. You should therefore only bathe your dog in exceptional situations, e.g. when the fur really stinks. Bathing dogs can also be necessary for medical reasons, such as skin diseases, and as directed by the doctor. So once or twice a month is enough.

Getting used to washing as a puppy

Dogs learn to be housebroken as puppies. And so they can also learn how to bathe. Therefore, you should bathe them once in a while from a young age. But here, too, less is more. In any case, a few treats will help you to ensure that you do everything right when training and bathing your dog. As a rule, you should always carefully introduce your dog to new things so that they don’t become afraid of them. The same applies to getting used to the dog transport box, driving a car in general, or even washing.

Dog bathing and cleaning instructions

If you want to bathe your dogs, it is important to follow a few rules so that the dog does not get injured and there are no negative consequences for your companion. Make your own dog shampoo
As already mentioned, you should use a mild and special dog shampoo because it is moisturizing. However, some commercially available dog shampoos contain unnecessary fragrances and additives. It can therefore be worth making your own dog shampoo. There are some good homemade dog shampoo recipes online, such as the following three recipes:

  1. To make your own dog shampoo, mix half a cup of oatmeal with half a cup of baking soda. Then add half a cup of cold water. You can then use the slightly viscous mixture to wash your dog. It will keep in a closed container in the fridge for a few days.
  2. Or make your own dog shampoo by mixing 1 cup of sulfate-free, plant-based liquid soap with 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, 80 ml of glycerin, and 1 quart of water. Then you can add a few drops of tea tree oil or lavender oil. Thus, it also serves as a means against fleas.
  3. A very simple dog shampoo recipe is to mix 4 tablespoons of grated soap with 4 cups of hot water and 1 cup of apple cider vinegar. Again, you can add essential oils or a teaspoon of aloe vera gel.

Coat care tips

So that you don’t have to bathe your dogs as often, good grooming is essential. Consequently, we have collected clever tips for daily grooming. In addition, note tips on driving safely with a dog.

  • Daily brushing of the dog removes dirt and promotes blood circulation.
  • Brush out light soiling or remove with a damp cloth.

Showing a sincere interest in the other person is not that easy. Because either you are too shy to talk to him or her. Or you try it with clumsy pick-up lines. Neither leads to success. But what helps with flirting and dating? We have tips on how to flirt properly and explain how you can learn to flirt.

What is flirting?

Some flirt with pleasure a lot and for others, it takes a lot of effort. But what does flirting actually mean? Flirting refers to a certain behavior that signals erotic affection through body language and words. Accordingly, by flirting you can show your counterpart that you are interested in getting to know each other. A friendly and fleeting exchange of glances is usually sufficient. And a smile can also lead to success. But what else is needed?

Learn how to flirt

In order for flirting to work better in the future, you should heed a few tips and rules. Because these can help you to approach your counterpart in a relaxed manner and a nice conversation can become more. So now you should learn how to flirt and date successfully. Then it works later with the good and proper kiss.

1) You can learn to flirt

It works much better if you are impartial and don’t have cramps in your head along the lines of “Today I really want to get to know someone”. You can’t force a little flirtation. Opportunities often arise when you hadn’t even remotely thought of them. The other person is sending out signals that can be positive or negative. So be open and try to recognize them. If the signals are positive and you’re sitting at a table with a lot of friends, you should “free up” more often. As a result, it is easier to flirt and a long and stable love relationship can develop from it.

2) Small talk is the order of the day when dating

Small talk topics will help you during the first conversation with your flirt partner. You can chat about the weather, your last vacation, or your favorite food. Because here it is more about a certain attractiveness and tension between the flirt partners, which is expressed rather non-verbally anyway. You can also find out if you share the same interests. And once you get to know each other a little better, serious issues can be discussed. If the other person asks directly or indirectly for help in solving a problem, that is of course also ok.

3) Proper communication when flirting

As already mentioned, serious topics of conversation are not very promising. So start with small talk and see how the conversation develops. In addition, you show serious interest in the other person by asking questions. A balanced speaking time can also ensure that you give the other person enough time for their answers and stories. In this respect, a deep analysis of previous relationships or criticism of the ex-partner is rather unsuitable for a flirt; the fun factor of these topics is zero.

4) Self-esteem leads to more flirting success

It’s important that you exude a healthy level of confidence when flirting. Because too much self-confidence can quickly come across as arrogant. In contrast, very low self-esteem can be unattractive. As a result, you appear insecure and a casual conversation is often not possible if you are very shy. Therefore use tricks to strengthen self-confidence. To do this, think about your positive sides and strengths before the date. If you convey that you are at peace with yourself when flirting, you will appear attractive and interesting to others.

5) The right mood decides

The basis for the success of a casual flirt or a first date is a good mood and positive energy. When flirting or on a date, the first moment often decides on success. As the old saying goes, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. So don’t show up to the date in a bad mood. Instead, postpone it. Or be honest and explain you’re bad mood. This way, your counterpart knows that you just got off on the wrong foot or that something unpleasant happened and brought your mood down to zero. Because then your negative condition will not be interpreted as a character trait. Also, you can reschedule the date if you’re not in the mood to flirt.

6) Laugh together

Humor immediately breaks the ice and at the same time shows whether you and your flirt partner have anything in common. And people who like to laugh are perceived as open and spontaneous. Your partner’s sense of humor will also tell you a lot about their character and attitude towards life. Because if you laugh a lot, you also have a lot of fun. So keep an eye out for people who share your sense of humor and who get the same kind of fun. This is how the flirt will definitely become a success.
