Whether it’s buying a car, a house, starting a new job, or shopping for a few items at the store. Don’t worry, successful negotiation can be learned. You should remember a few basic rules.

We all have to negotiate in daily life. That’s the way it is, whether we like it or not, it’s a part of our lives. It’s easy for some people, it “was put into them from the cradle”, others feel insecure and shy away from talking about money, which can be an expensive matter.

Basic rules when negotiating

  1. Bring a fundamental attitude of willingness to negotiate and the will to compromise right from the start.
  2. Do not react emotionally and try to start a negotiation break if there are emotional problems.
  3. Don’t be misled by the business rules (even these can often be negotiated individually)
  4. In contracts, always cross out what is not applicable or should be excluded.
  5. It would be best not to be the first to name an amount. Reacting instead of acting.
  6. Speak from we perspective. The decision is not yours alone. A friend, brother, sister, or husband “has to” agree as well. This way you can negotiate much more calmly and the negotiating partner always has to be prepared for four eyes.
  7. Never show too much and sure interest or even euphoria. Always stay coll.
  8. Never go to the point of blood, that’s how you achieve nothing. The other party should also conclude the negotiation with a good feeling.
