Similar to grandma's pie, this cookie will appeal to all apple baking lovers. In addition to the delicious apple filling, we added a layer of caramel sauce - it turned out great!

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Prepare the filling. Peel the apples and cut each into 8 wedges. Drizzle with lemon juice. In a saucepan, combine the cornstarch, all the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook for 2 minutes, until thick, then add apple slices.
  2. Reduce heat to low, cover pot and cook for 8-10 minutes. The apples should be soft, but not soft. Remove the pan from heat and leave under the lid to cool. Remove the apple wedges and cut into small pieces, return to the saucepan.
  3. Place flour, salt and sugar in a large bowl and stir. Cut the butter into cubes and mix with the flour mixture into small crumbs (can be rubbed with your hands or chopped in a food processor).
  4. Pour in 2 tbsp. l. ice water and stir, then add 2 more tbsp. l. water. Once the dough has gathered into a ball, there is enough water.
  5. Divide the dough into two equal parts, form two discs, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  6. Lightly dust the work surface with flour, roll out the dough into two equal rectangles 3 mm thick. Cut one rectangle into strips 1 cm wide.
  7. Preheat oven to 175 ° C. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
  8. Place a sheet of dough on a baking sheet. Brush with caramel sauce.
  9. Spread the apple filling evenly over the sauce (you need 1.75 cups of apple filling), press it down a little with a spoon or palm. With the strips of dough, place a wire rack on top of the filling. Brush the wire rack with beaten egg and sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon. Bake 25-30 minutes, until golden brown. Cool on a baking sheet.
  10. Cut the workpiece into equal pieces, sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
