Delicious and fragrant braided cheese bread is perfect for any meal. It can be served with the first course, cooked with it as a sandwich with sausage, butter or spread with sweet jam.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour (of the total amount indicated in the ingredients), sugar, salt and active dry yeast. Mix.
  2. Pour the milk into a separate bowl, add the butter and heat the milk until the butter melts. Milk should be warm, but not hot. Do not boil!
  3. Add milk-butter mixture to dry ingredients in bowl. Stir using a wooden spoon.
  4. Add egg and mix.
  5. Gradually add the remaining flour, stirring until the mixture turns into a soft dough.
  6. You may not need all the flour, so don't rush to add all the flour at once.
  7. Transfer the dough to a floured board and knead for 10-12 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough for ten minutes in a bowl, covered with a towel or lid.
  8. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin into a rectangle measuring 35x25 cm. Sprinkle the layer with grated cheese.
  9. Chopped green onions, garlic or garlic powder can be added if desired.
  10. Starting at the long edge, roll the dough into a tight roll.
  11. With a sharp knife or kitchen scissors, cut the roll in half vertically, leaving the top of the roll uncut. Carefully turn the cut halves of the roll so that the cut side is facing up.
  12. Weave the halves of the dough, placing one side on top of the other, repeating the weaving pattern until you reach the end of the roll.
  13. Grease a baking dish with butter. Carefully transfer the roll to the mold.
  14. The size of my form is 23x12 cm.
  15. Place the dough in a warm place for 60-90 minutes or until doubled in size.
  16. Before baking, brush the top of the bread with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds or seeds.
  17. I put the dough in the oven to proof. To do this, I preheat it to 50-70 degrees, and then turn it off and put the dough.
  18. Bake the bread in a preheated oven at 210 degrees for about 18-22 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Serve cheese bread warm.
