Dhansak is an Indian dish made with lentils. Dhansak can be chicken or lamb or shrimp. The recipe contains a lot of spices common in Indian cuisine. Change the pungency with the amount of chili. Three to four peppers give a medium heat to the dish.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Place lentils in a heavy-bottomed saucepan, salt and pepper well and cover with water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and cook lentils until soft (add hot water if necessary). Drain.
  2. In the meantime, heat 1 tbsp. l. vegetable oil (or ½ spoon of ghee) in a frying pan. Add dried spices and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes. Stir in onion, ginger, garlic and chili. Cook for 5 minutes (until tender).
  3. Add the remaining oil to the skillet and then the shrimp. Increase heat and cook, stirring occasionally, for 6-8 minutes until the shrimp turn pink. Add pineapple slices, lentils, tomatoes and some hot water to make the dish slightly thin. Simmer for 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste, finely chopped cilantro and serve.
  4. Bon Appetit!
